MPC 5000 or The 1000?

I just sold my 2000xl because i loaded up my drums into logic. But now they got the 5000 and i tried the 1000 and it is hard as hell. After watching the vid of play n skillz though making a beat on the 5k, the 5000 looks like thats all i'll ever need. What are yall thoughts? Peep out the video

Why are you limiting yourself to the 1K or the 5K?

I'd mess around with the 1K more if I were you. I've had mine out of the box for less than a day, and have only spent around 1 hour messing around with it... and already know the answers to a lot of the questions noobs (like myself admittedly) are asking around here. And I haven't opened the manual. It's a pretty intuitive machine imo.

appreicate the feedback. Whenever i see something new i just get that retail bug. Im sure the 1000 is all i would need. I just want to know what the funtions are with the 5000

man that's the point of the company is to leave you thinking this machine is the answer. it's just good marketing. plus it looks dope, of course. it could sell itself. it's just a sampler/sequencer tho. period. the 1k is a monster. if you can't get w/ a 1k then you either haven't tried hard enough to get it, or you just need to stay away from mpcs fck the 5k. i mean it's all good but don't give it too much credit. it's an alluring machine

The best deal is to get the mpc 1000 load up with JJ's OS, and get a good sound module like the M3 or the motif xs, much better deal than the 5000, just make sure the pads on the 1000 are the latest.

There are plenty of alternatives.

1. An MPC 5000 and Reason (or Pro Tools LE)
2. MPC 2500 w/ JJ OS and a sound module
3. A keyboard workstation (everything you need in one board)

between your fantom g and mpc, which do you use to sequence with? if it's the mpc (which i presume) what made you get the fantom g as opposed to the many other sound source modules/kbs available?

sorry if this goes a bit off-topic but maybe it's relevant to the TC. it is to me anyway hehe.

honestly if you feel drawn to the mpc 5000 you shouldn't just ignore your own feelings, the 5000 and 1000 are the same at their core which is sample triggering and sequencing which is going to be the gist of what you do, that being said efx are very important and the 5000 will eat the 1000 in that comparison, but the thing I'm trying to get at is this,
we are talking about instruments here so it's kind of like people saying all guitars are the same which they are obviously not. you will feel different on each of these machines, if you feel better on the 1000 then thats your instrument if you feel better on the 5000 then thats your instrument, first make sure which one you feel better on making music, then see where you need to shore up whatever you are lacking like if you feel better on the 1000 but you need better fx then look into what fx pieces you need to make it work for you, think of it like a guitarist going into a shop and trying out a hundred guitars to see which one feels the best.

all play n skillz did was a drum track... which can be done be easily done the 1000 or any mpc for that matter. Everyone from John Mayer to Just Blaze (who is an avid mpc user til recently) have had complaints about the mpc 5000. The perfect mpc is the mpc 1000 with maxed out ram, 60 or more gigs of hard drive space, and the pad upgrades...

This is the setup that works for me...another plus of the 1000 is size. Forget taking the 5k with you out of town to work on beats in hotels. Working on beats by the beach? Not gonna happen with that biggun.

I just watched the play n skillz video for the first time and wasn't too impressed. It definitely does not show anything one can't do with a 1000. Like was posted above, all they did was make a drum track...stackin' em and stackin' em...no big deal.

Me too. There is no better combination than an mpc 1000 with jjos for pure workflow. Get a good quality mic if you like singing - and clean up your vinyl if you don't.
I even chop up samples from my Ipod...Ive learned more in 2 months with an mpc 1000 than I did in 1 year with Ableton (with all its expensive manuals).

Its just an opinion - but really - there's no comparison )

What play and skills did can ONLY be done on a 5000 so get the 5000 and learn.




( noobs need to get jerked and waste money, its the only way they will learn about gear lust )
