How many of you have $10,000 invested in your studio

Sorry, didn't know where to put this, i don't think it's off topic and definitely studio environment related.

I'm just curious how much you have invested. I have hit the $3000+ mark just totaling up what is around the room. This does not include cables, vinly, past purchases that are sold, room treatment, or things that have failed. That adds some money as well. I feel i'm complete except i want to upgrade my monitors (aleast 1g) and my soundcard ($1700).

I just feel like damn, if i'm not careful, i'm going to have a $10,000 home studio for a hobby and drive a $10,000 car. I far from that "magic" number but still, it makes me want to stop right now. I'm just curioius where everyone else is. We can all make nice shit on FL for $100 but even then, you have to have a good soundcard, monitors, and room treatment. If you sample, you need vinly (well, if you don't DL). Plug ins are nice, and i know alot of people have 4g's worth of plug ins they downloaded, that's not me. I don't think it's a bad price, a studio shouldn't be cheap.


I'm just wondering where people are on this.

I probably have close to about $6000-10,000. I just spent about $3000 this summer alone. I am counting shyt I have and shyt I got rid of, but not counting vinyl and cables.

Mine is a homestudio set-up too and although in the past I couldn't seem to stop lusting after more gear I am totally (!) happy with my set up now. At one time or another I have had bought and sold a lot of other gear (mpc500, microkorg, etc). Due to space issues my setup is non computer based (baby has kicked me out into what can only be described as a cupboard), but I do use the house / work pc for Audacity and Wavosaur. I make mostly electronica. The following is in UK pounds. I rarely buy new, most of my stuff is bought and sold on ebay. I managed to make a £50 profit on my mpc that way!

The above has evolved from a guitar and multitracker set up that I had last year, so spent about £2k in the last year or so.

I know most guys here will look down their noses at this set up, but as a hobby studio it works great and portability is the key for me - being able to make music on my palm pda or gameboy when on the sofa, at work or on the train is as important as a great sounding studio (hence no decent monitors yet). The pda is my best used piece of kit and if I had only spent £60 on the pda and software I would be able to enjoy making music.

I know what you mean, before you know it you look back and you've spend loads of cash. I have a nice set up and its not anyway close to world class but i have spent 9000+ easy

A car just takes you from point a to point b. They all do the same thing.

My studio lets' me do what I want, when I want, and how I want.

Try using other people's studios to make your music and you'll see way more then $10,000 go out and you
don't have anything other then your work to show for it... With my own studio , I've got my own work to show and
a full studio.

Some people put $10,000 into their home theater. I'd rather keep my $400 7 year old TV and still have my Studio.
It's a matter of priorities. If making music is just a once in a while thing, then you might want to just go to Fruity Loops.

Fruity Loops can't replace my MemoryMoog, or A-100 modular or ATC-1 or TeeBee or my 808...

spent a shtt load. but i don't put a price on happiness. although i try to budget happiness


money means absolutely nothing to me. except its what you need to get things like food shelter weed and gear.
