MPC 500 MIDI Help

Hi! I'm going to buy an MPC500 and, for over an year and an half, I used a PC and an AKAI MPD24 to produce my beats. But now I'm selling the MPD so I can afford the 500... My question is: as the MPD is an MIDI controller, and the 500 has a MIDI I/O, can I still use the 500 to work on my old beats and projects? Of course its main use will be sampling and producing ON the MPC, but I would like to still be able to trigger the samples on my previous works.
