It's good to know that VST has that board available, even though it ain't cheap.
I guess it can't hurt to reinstall the OS. Not sure if that'll help. But if not, the next thing to do would be to call Nick @ VST before ordering the board. I'm sure he can help troubleshoot and determine what's needed in order to save the original poster some time and money, instead of having to ship the unit out for a repair.

Yeah, for real, the guy who shipped it out said he'd pack it VERY WELL. Not well enough, turns out. He'd basically tucked some bubble wrap to take up the extra space in the box on only the back and right sides of the MPC. So the left and front were just up against the box--though he did double box it. Still, pretty crappy job.

Shipping it off to VST today, I don't have the patience/inclination for unplugging/replugging every ribbon and jack on the inside of the machine. Guess that means I'm out a few hundred more $$$.....so it goes.

I'll update the situation once I hear anything back. Thanks for offering your help!

Actually, the dude did keep the original box. The MPC was in there but there was no other cardboard securing it in place or anything like that. He put rolled up bubble wrap on two sides of the machine. Then he packed that box inside a larger one.

I assume from what you said that when you open the MPC box fresh, there is a mold that the MPC fits into, cardboard or plastic surrounding it. Right?

Too bad he didn't keep THAT! :):)

Yeah, I think it is a cardboard mold, though I'd have to dig out my box and look. I keep all that ish in case I ever sale or need to send something off for repair. The original packaging is usually the best to ship in because they've already gone through the work to make sure it'll make it to the destination in tact.

OK, shipped to VST, got there fast, they looked at it and fixed it within 2 days, very cool. Here's the problems:

Bad headphone jack
Bad operation pcb ("PC operation board")

One of those things where nothing looked wrong, they tested it, it was bad, try out a new one, it works and solves the issue. Cause? Can only conjecture about it.

$230. MPC should be here tomorrow.

However, I'm having a lot of success with JJOS2 1.21, there are so many damn things you can do with this OS, it makes the MPC 2000XL look like a Commodore 64. In fact weren't they sold concurrently...? :0

The Q-links are amazing, the TRIM window is so easy...I know I've just scratched the surface. I'm intrigued by the INST programs and will read more about them soon. Any other faves you guys have, within the first few days of working out a song on the 1000?

Word? That sh*t wasnt babied at all. Dude sold it cuz he was having problems...

The seller did indeed stick to his word. I only ended up paying about $100 total for everything. So I dropped about $1000 in total for the machine, which has new pads, 70 gig hard drive, 128 MB memory, JJ OS 1 and 2, and the 128 MB compact flash card (can't remember if this last piece is standard or not). At this point, I don't really care whether he knew it had problems before he sold it, because it's fixed and working perfectly now, and with all those extras I feel like I'm still ahead even after another $100. It's worth it to me to have all those extras installed, saves me the time of ordering them and installing them myself.

He also printed out all the JJ manuals and had them bound together, so now I have all the manual pages easily at my disposal. Only thing missing is a bad ass carrying/travel case!
