recording to pc

ok i know that the most proper way to save is by using a mbox tyoe deal but is there a simpler mor cheaper way to save to my pc. like maybe plugging in the audio jacks into the mic and speaker slot? just a question. if not then i'll have to get me an mbox. oh yeah if you wanna see my beats check out youtube.com/riosbeatz1

yup, look up resampling

well i don't know if this is what you meant by "resampling" but here's what i did:

since i don't have a usb converter device yet i plugged in the out's of the 500 into its very own in's. i recorded my sequenced beat and saved it as a sample. Then i uploaded my beat and fiddled around with it in my WAV editor and bounced it into a mp3 file. i think it came out pretty decent considering it's not the conventional way i guess. tell me what you think- myspace.com/riosbeatz

yes what u did was resampling. u could do it that way or just turn the monitoring on in rec mode n u can record ur song/seq without having to connect the output to the input. as far as recording 2 the pc ur stock soundcard is fine until u decide u need 2 step up ur quality. learn 2 use everything u have then build up as necessary

turn on monitoring? can you elaborate a little bit more on that because if that uppens the quality i would like to learn it that way.

when u r in rec mode use the wheel to scroll thru the options n there is one that says monitor in. as long as this is turned ON when u press play u will hear ur sequences or u can even hit the pads record urself live if u wanted 2. dont kno if u get better quality than if u feed the output to the input via wire so just try both ways and do what works 4 u

i'm not sure why you would resample into the mpc then record to hard disc (ie. computer) almost every mpc producer i know records straight to hard disc via either the mic input on the computer, or an audio interface (for more precision analog to digital conversion). there is actually no way to uppen the quality of a recording, it's not possible. at best you can create more data points by cloning individual bits of data, and interpolating minor differences between actual sample points.

my recomedation to you, go to radio shaq and buy a stereo 1/4inch to mini cord. the 1/4 goes into the headphone jack, which i've found has less hiss than the audio outs. the mini jack goes into the mic in on the computer (usually a pink jack)

for recording the actual .wav i recommend soundforge, audacity or if you're investing, protools.

Plug your cable into the mic input on your computer. Open audacity (it's free, easy and is easy to troubleshoot) and instead of plugging the other end into your MPC outs, tap the jack with your finger and **** with Audacity's settings until you can hear yourself tapping the jack (sounds like Bzzt Bzzt). Otherwise you can't be sure if it's your comp or MPC that's not working right.

Just set Audacity to receive your mic input and it should work.
