Speaking of Sampling....

It seems that we have an abundance of people asking sampling questions of late. My question is how many of us really "sample" using the MPC or other samplers. Obviously this does not apply to people using machines like the MPC 60, 3000, ASR 10, SP 1200, or other samplers without the ability to read waves. I am mainly asking how many us have grown accustom to loading or sampling waves into the computer and just setting up a MPC Editor program and saving it to a disk to load up on the MPC. I know I have spoiled myself, but atleast since I owned a 60 and have an ASR 10 I still sample from ear. What are your opinions?

Yo I do both. I just depends on wether or not I'm in a comuter mode. Sometimes it's just fun to go directly to the MP it's like I'm reconneting with my hip hop past and I fill like Pete Rock in that pic Prah has

you can load waves into all those machines from software, even the unexpanded 60.

I used to do that but now sample only.

When I had my 60 I could never load waves into it via MPC Editor. I even posted a topic about it in the 3000/60 forum and the response I got was that you had to have the 3.10 upgrade.

I do both kid..but lately ive been doin it more via computer

But i definetly notice the loss of a certain umph so ima get back to my hard sampler game soon...to each his own

I used to be all computer, but I've been tryin to get to where I can do everything on my MPC... That's why I bought my 2KXL in the first place... Computers (at least in my personal experience) leave people with a lack of creativity when choppin and layin out drum tracks... So I started drawin further and further away from my computer... Now I do all my arranging and layering on my MPC... Choppin and FX mostly on the MPC... I still do a lot of looping on my computer though because with Zero Crossings in Audition you get no clicking from your loop like you do a lot on the MPC... My Production's about 85 % MPC at this point 10% FX Hardware and 5% Computer.

I use my computer to chop samples. Go by ear first and then get it tight by watching the waveform.

I use my computer to go to the MPC forum

Vinyl goes straight into Ableton/Logic/Pro-Tools

Television/DVD/TiVo samples go straight into the MPC 1000 because it weighs considerably less than my computer

when i use my 2000xl at home, i sample straight in to the mpc and do everything in there.

when at work using my 3000, i'll take samples that i previously sampled in the 2000xl, bring them up on zip disc, load them into PT, chop, bounce, load in the mpcpgmmaker, then sequence on the 3000.

cutting it up in PT is mad quick. i spent 3 hours over the past 2 days chopping and i already got thru 20 breaks. now i got 2 new, fully loaded drum kit programs. stoked am i.

all mpc....of late-into triton

i like the samples being the "program" button away, instead of "save file, eject disk, load disk, see if it works"

I was knockin this chick off and I called my home answering machine by accident, and it recorded me knockin this chicks block off......I sampled it into the mp 2000xl and tweeked it a little bit and made a real nasty track.....I let the beeouch here it the other day and the chick went bananas wanting to flowers in the both.....so I did it
