quick question!

im thinking of buying the mpc500..but this is my question...i play in a band i do back up vocals and play the bass and i already play a small synth...however sometimes beacuse of set times or whatever i was thinking of getting me a sampler that can record what i play on my synth and "playback" it and that can also make sweet beats for when i am rehearsing on new material or whatever... and without the use of a computer......and im also thinking of getting the 2g card for storing needs,,,,,is this the right machine for me? and if not could you please apoint me to one? ( no Dr. sampler from boss dont like that one)

MPC500 is not a tape-deck - you can only record ~ 12minutes in stereo / 44,1KHz sampling rate; or ~24 minutes in mono. Its not at tool for use lika a tape-deck ore other stereo recording tool. You better use a little MP3 recorder - it´s also cheaper!

i noticed in your post that you are interested in playback and a drum machine, and while the mpc seams to solve all your needs, i'll have to agree with the above posts. it might be a waste of money. if you want something a little more authentic than a cd player, or mp3 player. then i would recommend a doctor sample, it seams to be the most common play back device i see on stage. as for making beats at home, check out the akai xr20, which looks to be a monster of a drum machine.

The Roland SP-404 could be the right thing for you. It is rather simple, but can play samples direct from smart media cards. That means that you can have 2 gig's of virtual ram. And the unit is cheap to. Check ik!
