Next time your

out digging and you find a record you would like to listen to, all you need is:

A Pencil
A piece of A3 paper
Sellotape
A Sewing needle !
Pivot.

So my message to all you sellers is never let a man/woman lose on you precious vinyl when they are only armed with the above.

Although it would be hilarious to see someone do it.
PUNTER: "alright if i give this a quick listen mate?"
SELLER: "yeah sure mate"
proceeds to pull out the above items...

yeah, i remember something like that in a 'how to' publication when i was a kid - was trying to remember if i'd ragged any of my dads records trying it out

let me guess how them objects are used...

pencil - to rotate the record on

A3 paper - to make into a gramaphone funnel to amplify the sound

sellotape - to hold the funnel together

sewing needle - to sit in the grooves!

pivot ... to hold the needle?

on a similar note - i got one of these the other day (different model though)



... it picks up the sound a little and it carries across the tone arm. - i imagine theres loads of different things you could use, but they would have varying ability in reproducing the sound.

as old as i'am i never used this method and i wouldnt, theres just something bout records that i need to listen to them on a diamond tip needle, as it is i get pissed when people dont take care of them, i wouldnt want to wreck it so i couldn't listen to it.
