MPC2000 Calssic & SyQuest EZ Drive SCSI Problem

Hi, I got the 2000 Classic and hooked it up with an EZ Drive from SyQuest. But when I try to choose it in the disk menu (no matter if I want load,save or format the disk) there is just the "wait......." comand on the display and the 2000 freeze. I tried with different SCSI IDs, with Terminator and without, different cables and EZ Disks. My last thought: SCSI Fuse is blown. So how could I find out if it is blown? And how does this piece look like (maybe someone have a photo). I have solder experience and would try to solder in a new one if this type of fuse is a common electronic part.

Oh and am I right that the MPC should recognize (and display) the SCSI Device while try booting without a floppy inserted? (dont want to wait for the complete booting)

You can check for a blown fuse using a voltmeter on pin 25 and ground to check for 5 volts. Or, if you have a DB-25 terminator with an LED on it, that will work also. If the LED doesn't light when you have the terminator installed on the SCSI connector and the MPC2000 powered on, then the fuse is blown.

Thank you!!! Ok theres nothing goin on between Pin25 and GND so I need to solder I guess the fuse is the one labled as FS1 (outch that was very tough )

but its only available as slow (in german there are T=träge (slow), M=mittel (i guess thats what you ment with normal) and F=flink (fast) ). Could this be a problem?

I might try the slow blow one. Of course, you can easily make sure that the fuse is not blown again by NEVER hotswapping a SCSI cable. Always power down the sampler before turning off or unplugging a SCSI peripheral. Remember the rule is: Sampler powers on last (after all SCSI drives) and off first (before any SCSI drives).

I realize you probably didn't blow the fuse yourself, so I don't direct this at you specifically - it's only meant as a general rule everyone should follow.

(shame on me) I guess I did blow the fuse I hotplugged (unplugged) a broken zipdrive (click of death) and plugged in the syquest.
I knew about a risc but I did that years ago with my emu e64 and a MOD Drive and never had a problem with hotpluggin (seem that the luck was on my side for years)

Ok I had to learn my lesson. Now I know better And there is really no reason to hotplug the syquest on the mpc.

Some of the risk seems to be which type of SCSI connector is on the sampler. DB25 connectors are the worst because it is so easy to bump the pins against the ground shield as you plug/unplug the cable. Centronics, like on your e64, are very tougher to short, due to their pinless design. And of course the sampler matters also, as some samplers have better fuses.

There was no rectangle fuse at the electronic shop so I took this one. I also thought a fuse socket is nice so if it blow up again its really easy now to change.

Price: 1.20 Euro and half an hour to get it fixed.
