Hey All...

Ok, I went from making beats in FLS to the MPC 1000. I am a fan of sampling everything I put into a song off of vinyl. Here is my problem...

I grab the sample I want to use off of vinyl. I got a ahead and chop it up...For some reason I end up making many of my beats at a 95bpm. So...when I chop and then create a program I the of course start creating my song.

What I'm getting is my chops are not connecting when I am sequencing them. I have small gaps between all the samples. I have tried playing with the the time stretch feature and I'm either getting the sample to play to fast or way to slow, which effect the quality of the sample.

Any tips ideas...

Oh yea, I did notice that by default my BPM was 120. I did change it to 90...not sure if that did any good.

I have been ready the MPCSamples.com tutorial, they explain much about chopping drums, but not about chopping music or sounds.

Thanks for the patience!

when u tried time stretching, did u time stretch, or did u mess with the tune feature. you will either have to time stretch the whole original sample before u chop , then chop it. or adjust ur bpm to line ur samples up.

im still learning myself, but as far as i know there are only 3 options :

1 timestretch before chopping (keep ur sample sounding the same)
2 adjust BPM to match ur sample chops (keeps ur sample sounding the same)
3 adjust the tune ( adjust the pitch of the sample)

I used the time stretch before chopping the sample into peaces.

My fear of adjusting the BPM is that the song will be either to fast or two slow...

I haven't attempted any pitch changing or tuning only because I Want to get the basic chopping down first.

Thank you for responding!

u said u normally make beats at 95, and u put it down to 90.....start at 90 and increase very slowly. every time u change the number restart the beat. u can always go right back to 90 and ull be in the same spot ur in now. then if u still can get what u want, come back and well brain storm some more !

word...

Thank you I will keep experimenting.

One thing I'm taking from this of all the the potential of what I will be able to do when I'm more familiar with the machine.

More suggestions would be useful.

Again, thank you for the input!

its best to timestretch after chopping, that way no matter how short or long the hit is... you can make it match between the parameters corectly...

you feel me?

ALTLOOP + NOTE ON beats the hell out of timestretching in my opinion

i can't access youtube from work, but check out my video on non realtime pitch shifting and non realtime time stretching here:
