MPC 2000 XL won't turn on!

Well, Akai still hasn't replied to me, but I did sent an email to VST asking if they knew anything about it. This is the response I got:
Very interesting question, even the service manual indicates universal power
(100-240VAC, 50/60hz). The power switch pcb and switch mode power supply are
designed for this power requirement. I did check several MPC2000XL's and
they all have 110 V. stickers. I don't have an answer for you - but should
work.

so...theres already a fellow in england and in australia with US MPCs working without transformers...right? i'm working up the balls to plug mine in, though then again maybe its better to be safe than sorry...gah...im gonna wait another day and then im just gonna call Akai. At this point, it would just be a good thing to know for the greater good of the traveling MPC users :p

OKAY! To finally settle this, I got a response from the Akai support here in the Netherlands, they let me know that:


All AKAI MPC's from the 2000 series are Multi-switchable indeed. The 110V sticker on your unit is probably there because it needs that indication when exported to the US.

So you can use your MPC2000XL here without any problems. You only do need another -suitable- power cord.

So, I decided to just stick a plug adapter on the end of my MPC's cord and go for it and - what do you know...it works! Throw out your step-down transformers guys! Whew, good to know finally.

I hope this ends all the questions about using 2000/XL's with transformers.
