Hooking a compressor up to compress my turntables?so i dont redline my basslines on my techno and hiphop

Is this for mixing on ur tables? because whatever records u got, u need to remember its already been through mastering... its been compressed.. limited etc..

The way to make sure u dont over do it with levels is to keep track / control of ur levels on ur dj mixer..

Although its not a totally stupid idea no, just not really needed unless u wanna squash ur mixes and loose dynamics

i'd never do that, because you should be able to not **** your gains up without an compressor. what if youre spinning at a party? would you take your compressor with you?

yeah but it levels the sound so your knkocking the red. i have spun with cats that dont have any control of volume leveling,it's not a bad idea...i run my comopressor thru my hole system.for the size garage i have it comes in handy in keeping my levels kool fo rthe neighbors...not that it matters but it gives a nice warm sound also.

yeah you just have to learn to conrol that too. compression.

most clubs put compressor and limiter on their soundsystems and most djs curse them, and do their best to bypass them. main problem is that they set them up wrong, so i guess if you have proper control over the settings it might be useful.

yes it's a great idea. Of course records are mastered, but do you know what they do when they play a cd on the radio? Compress the shit out of it even more. So yes, if you believe the level differences between songs warrants bringing a compressor to even them out, then by all means do it. Most people won't even notice, they might even like it better with some compression, just don't overdo it.

i would not recommend gigging with a compressor unless you have intimate knowledge of their operation.

i can understand techno baselines peaking out a system. techno producers always have huge monitors and totally take for granted the fact that most systems can’t handle the low frequencies so common to the genre. that is if you mean techno as in techno, and not just some uneducated, blanket electronic production reference. in which case you probably just need use the gain and eq on your mixer.
