It seems that both versions one and two are at or near completion. Please don't take this the wrong way, as I am in no way complaining. I just love seeing new features added and I would love to see this continue. I understand that with all of the additions that there is no longer any space to add any major new features. What I am wondering is if there is a posability of a third version that may strip down the 1k to its very basic features or even scrap them all together in order to have the Mp do something it had never been designed for. Something along the lines of a vocoder, just as an example, so that the Mp could switch between using version 1 or 2, or 2 and 3. That way you could use the Mp traditianaly, or as a totally new device with other equipment.
I know this may be far fetched, maybe even impossable... Just a thought to see what others think.

the issue is cost, economy, and number of people who would purchase.
i'd also like to see this, but more so i'd like to see continued (if slow) updates of os2.
the programmer is very busy right now, and this is just a plain bad time for money all around.

meanwhile, i recommend seeing what can be done with the mpc along the lines of private development from within DAW using MIDI FX in stuff like ENERGYXT. this is a massive untouched area.

I definately see what your saying, and with the initial slow sales of version two I guess it's kind of a pipedream. It's just fun to think about. Truth be told, there is still a lot that I could learn on version 2, version 1 too really, that I just don't really know about. I really kind of stumbled across the old style sequencing in grid edit. Can't think of what its called right now, but you hit the numeric button in grid mode to get to it. I use this all of the time now. I'm still trying to get my workflow better. I like to use each pad on a seperate track to build patterns using track mute, but still think I could find a more traditional way, or easier way to do this I should say. The videos that you made really help. It's great to see how others work. I guess I'm rambling now... Anyways, peace out.

I think os2 is pretty much done and now it's up to users to misuse it and discover new tricks. There's couple things i still wish to have completed (like pad-arpeggio for external midi devices) but otherwise i'm pretty happy with progress of os2.

the best way to do this would be if JJ added PAD MUTE to the OS. this was actually listed by JJ as a possible new feature during the early days of OS 2 development. if i could have only one remaining feature added to OS 2, this by far would be it. this would allow you to mute parts of your beats & arrangements on the fly and yet still keep everything all on one track if you want. what is the benefit of this? QLINKS!

i always set both my QLINKS to control various parameters like TUNE and SAMPLE START to tweak the beat while it is playing. the problem is QLINKS only control the currently active track, so if you want to effect all of your rhythm sounds at once then you can't mute them independently (and vice versa). PAD MUTE would solve this.

Someone mentioned an EXPLODE option. (I'm almost sure that's what they called it.) That would take everything recorded on one track and ship them to thier own tracks. This would just be amazing to me. This would allow me to continue doing things the way I do , andstill let me use the track mutes. I'm kind of surprised that its not requested more. Track mute would be cool, but the explode option would allow me to have my cake and eat it too... The more I think about it the more I really want it. It's not easy to change the way you work. Wow has JJ spoiled me.

i've posted my "final three" in another thread, but since this is what this is turning into...

QUANTIZE STRENGTH (percentage of TC magnetism)

ALTLOOP/LOOP CROSSFADE (even a very simple one with few parameters, just to smooth these sample microloops a little easier)

SEQ EDIT/DURATION/EXTEND TO NEXT NOTE (uses DURATION to simulate a "hold" ala AHDSR, but more flexible because you can still increase/decrease duration)

haha from a personal interest perspective, i'm not too intrigued by EXPLODE because it's useless to me...(sorry). same with automatable pad mute

i think that's just bound to be the case, everyone is going to value different things. it's more than an issue of democracy, too, it's an issue of an implementation which we have no ideas about. so it goes. at least we are where we are! quite a history.

i still want akai style direct record, volume only track muting, velocity sensitive scrolling in the trim screen, and step pages in step edit so that the only events you see in step edit are the events assigned to the current step (after all, it is called "step edit").

as for the explode option, can't you do that manually in seq edit? i guess it would be useful to have the mpc do it itself if you used a lot of pads on the same track and want them separated out. i'm actually not a fan of this because i don't really like when the mpc does too much on it's own. i wouldn't want it choosing which pads get split to which tracks and what-not just like i wouldn't want the ability to load a folder of sounds and have the mpc automatically assign each sound to a pad. i like to know where things are going.

My final 2:

I) TRIM: CHOP BY TAP: SP404 style chopping (although on the SP it only does start and end point) Play the sample in trim and tap your chop points using a pad as it plays. Seems like it'd be easy and SOOO helpful.

II) TRIM: TUNE TO BAR LENGTH: tune stretches or shrinks your sample to a specified bar length based on bpm

I would add 2 of Nym's -

QUANTIZE STRENGTH (percentage of TC magnetism)

ALTLOOP/LOOP CROSSFADE

plus - PITCHSHIFT - it should be changed, the way it works is unnaceptable...
it's ofline process, so instead of 20 or sth presetes which works exactly the same ( or very similar)
could we have 2 options for example :
lofi and hifi ???
and really good algorithm which can make samples sound ....not really nasty...
at the moment pitchshift for me is completely useles....
I got MPC (1k/2.5k) over 3 years and don't use it at all.....

any other ideas regarding PITCHSHIFT - very welcome

bless

i have yet to hear a pitch-shifting algorithm that doesn't degrade the quality in a substantial way. elastique is better than most, but as a general rule, if you time-stretch you're sample is gonna get dirty. so either mask it or put a little delay or something on it.
