can full songs or tracks be transferred to pc via CF card?

i was on the verge of trading my 2000xl for a 1k for the easier pc connectivity but im just too fond of my xl...

so if i put a CF reader into my xl would i be able to transfer entire songs or entire individual tracks to pc and into a program like cool edit pro or whatever using a CF card?

or would i just be able to transfer the sounds without sequence or program info?

and what are your thought on this with an xl vs. a 1k? thanks.
