Working with Sample programs

Setting up programs in the 5k can be tedious.

Just curious to know what method you guys use to get the process done?

I was just thinking of making a post like this.. also wondering like how do you organize your files? And do you mostly save to your hard drive or CF card?

Fortunately I had my samples organized before I got the 5k.
90% of the sounds I use on my projects are the same I use with Software. I just transferred some GB's from the computer to the 5k HD.

I have created several folders like:

In the HD
1- Sample folder where I put subfolders with specific kinds of sampes (Kick, snare, loop cuts etc)
2-Program folder where I store all the programs I create. I build Some programs before making the beat but most of them, I build during the beat creattion.
3-Project folder where I store my projects before extracting from the MPC for recording and mixing
4-Phrased loops folder where I put all the phrased patches I created for future use.

It will take time but once you organize your folders, it will be easier for you.

I use CF cards only for back up of projects when I am taking the 5k to a show.

is the architecture the same as JJ os mpc 1000 for the 5k? i had trouble organsiing my samples, it's probably why my 1k gathered dust for so long. but i'm about to re-enter the arena and may even pick up a 5k. need to eradicate any bad habits.

one other question. Im currently at work, so I can't refer to the manual...

but after I create a sequence using my sample program, are you supposed to save the sequence (midi info) inside the same folder as the program and samples?

no its not necessary, but it is best that you do so you dont have to go and reassign samples and programs.

im finding it easier and easier to work in the 5k environment. but, its sad knowing that the lesser priced 1k can do the same thing...

For me, The easiest way to save sequences and programs in the same folder is:
1- Creat a folder
2- Save entire memory in this folder.

All contatining items of this project will be loaded when you reload this project.

Thus, you only save tha programs you really need to.

One
