Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By stephen126 Sun Oct 19, 2008 1:06 am
Im in panic mode, because all of a sudden my 2000xl will not boot up past the wait... screen or the detecting memory screen. Nothing happened to the mpc in my mind that would make it act up this way. If anyone can tell me whats happening it would be a great help because i have no clue.

Do the easier one first... reload the OS.
If that don't work, then go ahead and take all them bottom screws out and readjust the memory sticks.

i've never installed an os before, if i load it on the CF card and put it in the machine will it install automatically or is there another step?

You have to go to your CF card in the Load Screen and look for MPC2000XL.BIN and Press Load Do It and it will install it.

It sounds like you could have a Memory problem but it seems like it's something else maybe a Rom problem.

hey everybody, i have tried some of the suggestions you all have proposed over the last few weeks, but i cannot get this machine to work. thinking i may have to take the mpc to a shop. I cannot load the OS because it will not let me get to the load function and removing the memory sticks and re adjusting them didnt seem to do the trick either. do you all think i should just take it in and pay the money?

Wait...

Are you saying your MPC doesn't have any OS of any kind and it never has? What changed from the time it worked to now, or did it ever work? The OS is not installed onto the machine in any way, for example my OS is on a floppy so I have to have the floppy disk in the drive when I turn on the MPC in order for it to work. I just copied the file to a floppy and put it in. I'm not too familiar with CF drives so I'm not sure of the procedure but I'd assume you just put it on the CF card then put that in your drive then turn on the MPC.

there was an OS installed but when i press the power button the screen just says wait, then sometimes after about 4 minutes it will say detecting memory... nothing has changed since the start of this problem.

so i should probably purchase new memory sticks then? that would be a lot cheaper then taking it into the shop i bet.
