I would say alot of beginners moving up from a 2xl and newbies couldn`t get it at first. Alot of the hip hop vets from Just B, Buckwild, RZA, to Mad Professor and a gang of other vets got into it.


But Akai and maybe a fear factor of learning curves steer alot of users away. Now alot of people are jumping on it as the price comes down.

It is a classic in the making hold on to what you your instrument yall peace.

hell, beat makers make more complex shit on a mpc 3000 than "composers" do on the 4000.

Roger Linn and Dave Smith's forthcoming machine is gonna kick ass -
these guys started the concept with their Studio 440, Linn 9000 and the MPC60.

Their new machine willl SOUND GREAT, and have excellent ERGONOMICS and be REALLY STRAIGHTFORWARD TO USE, like an MPC should be.
Forget Akai.

It has the right qualities for me i.e.
no big screen so no click click click click are we there yet click.

In my experience when a hardware manufacturer adds a sizeable screen the basic ergonomics go out the window.

Any date on when the linndrum II is coming out? Theres not even a confirmed specs or even pics of it yet is there?

It's delayed now until 2009, as they did a redesign based on user feedback.

Don't worry, their too companies will bring it out! And it will be good.
They're no bullshitters - they've been in the game a long time (they INVENTED many aspects of the game, in fact! ;0)
and if they thought it needed a redesign before it will be ready, I believe them!

I'm with Feline on this, Dave Smith & Roger Linn are like the last of they're kind. They treat building beat machines like works of art. They have a musicians perspective, and they listen to the users and make products for musicians not scientists. My expectations are that those dudes are gonna blow the doors off of the beat machine world and change the game for synth manufactures as they've always done. I'm definitely willing to be patient wait to see what comes from this highly anticipated collaboration.

I really hope linndrum II is gonna be amazing. Yeah both their history is crazy, my friend bought the Prophet 08 and its fvckin amazing! Im gonna buy Mopho when i get some cash over.

Linn/Smith can photoshop pictures and talk about features all the want. We do this everyday on the forum. I would love to see a $3000 work of art. However, I won't go overboard with excitement until they actually make this machine. Especially since Linn's last attempt at a workstation's OS was the MPC 3000 which is primitive when compared to the latest MPCs.

At the present moment, the 5K is a monster and future OS updates are obviously coming. For you guys that want a keygroup type of sampler like the 4K..simply buy a $400 Z4 and connect it to the 5K. Or keep emailing Akai and ask them to implement something like the Z4 or even the Fusion's keygroup sampler in the 5K.
