so what exactly is new about chop shop 2.0 in OS 1.24?

The release notes sez v1.24 open and saves chop shop 2.0. What does that mean? What is new?

the mpc 2500 chopshop converts stereo samples to (pseudo) mono, because it uses only the left channel of the sample by default. akai claims that the mpc 2500 cannot chop stereo samples in chopshop because the processor is to weak.
now the mpc 5000 has true stereo chopshop and so akai implemented at least the ability to open and save files to the 2500 os one created using a mpc 5000.

maybe they give us full stereo chopshop on the 2500 with a later os upgrade once the initial hype for the 5000 has slowed down a bit and they add something more there as the promised - then afterwards the little stepbrother gets some leftover features from the big brother (which is ironically the youngest of them all...).

So its not much good without a 5000 then. Any PC chopping software would do a better job. Give us REX2 compatibility and be done with it!

I know jjos gets mentioned a lot but I would argue that 1.24 is the reason to stick with Akai OS. The bugs which destroyed your work or a function just didn't plain work were too much to live with. But now they are fixed, a little calm here please. Akai OS has larger and easier to read font, the contrast is better, it doesn't jump into unexpected screens, it feels more finished and solid to me. Praising jjos on better features isn't the point: if you want features you'd be using a laptop already. An MPC is about simple, reliable operation and its still an amazing rock solid midi sequencer for external gear.

I've used chop shop to split audio loops into single hits and it works here, a great resource for weird kicks and snares. I can't say its slower than earlier OS, I've not chopped that much that I started to time it. All those auto detect functions are pretty inaccurate on the MPC.

The Akai OS doesnt stand a chance up against JJOS.

Becuase the JJOS fixes all the issues... Easy as that. Why spend $1800 on a machine with a crappy OS? Why not spend the anotherr $40 or $80 for a perfectly working OS? You might as well.

The 2500 with JJOS2 is easily one of the best MPC's.

Just check the comparison chart for yourself.

I see the time coming that manufacturers put out their gear without any OS, and let customers pay an extra $100 for it right away. I know who to blame for that when the time comes...

i am on jjos1 5.54, maybe this doesn't happen on your os but it does on mine. For example, sometimes, when im naming a sample i just recorded the screen will just change to the 16 levels screen or even one that doesnt have a hard button, i.e. pad sensitivity screen... can you please explain how that can be attributed to "jittery fingers" or a "simple" lack of knowledge/experience nym??
