and what is with "rare" records? a record is a record. it's got sounds on it. i don't care if it was in every household at one time or if it's some obscure shtt no one likes. imo, a "rare" record isn't going to have any better samples on it than one that isn't "rare".

sorry for all the posts on this. i never come on this forum cuz to me, digging is a lifestyle that has nothing to do with the internet. but i figure i can throw some thoughts at ya'll from this new school perspective you're talking about

Ripping off artists is one thing, ripping off store owners by stealing records is another.

Call me whatever but, I don't steal property, just some MP3s

i got records at home in the past 5 years prolly copped over a 1000 records now im at a stage where ive learned how to dig so im just downsizing credit crunch and all that. so im selling a few keyboards and samplers and getting rid of the records that r just aight or that i dont really like. (only shit remaining is shit with nuff samples and that good to listen to, all them one samples records is gone)

so my record collection is down to the bare essential between 50 - 100 records and now if im looking for sample im going on-line cos i find better shit then the stuff i used to find in the shop.

of course i aint gonna get everything on-line but there will be some big record that u see on rare occasions for £100 and up id rather have access to them sounds for free.

and where ever the sound comes from either youtube or tv long as i make make it sound good in the track its gravy.

Mr Guiness wrote:Oh , you sample from those rare record postings on You Tube ? I cant lie , I listen to them , but to actually try to sample them is ...........

I'm not going to speak for anyone else, but I only sample youtube for shit that isn't anywhere else (little kids singing something, some chick ranting about something that has a word I want, etc...)

I don't see what the problem is with that, it would be different if that stuff was on vinyl as well, but some dudes are limiting themselves to what is on vinyl because they think it makes them more legit - but I'm going to dig through everything that makes noise and use it and not give a shit what you guys say.

That being said, sampling songs off of youtube is wack.

just because a lot of diggers sample, doesn't mean every digger samples, nor does it mean every producer must dig records.

diggers are record collectors. they (we) like records. we like to own them, and hold them. we take pride in rare or special records. we know the difference between an original and a reprint. it's a lifestyle, a hobby.

then you got people that sample. in the old days people were sampling vinyl cause what else was there to sample. nowadays there's more places to get audio so people sample from a lot of different sources.

diggin is a waste of cash if you arn't a record collector. that much is true. but coming into the crate digger section of the forums and talkin shit on vinyl, not a great idea...

I only sample from Fobedafied's tracks once he's posted them on his myspace page. :)

i just joined this board and it's already showing some funny posts/topics!

i hear where this guy's coming from, it can be a pain in the ass to find quality vinyl when record stores are closing left and right and every record seller checks popsike/musicpriceguide/gemm/ect... to get top dollar web price.

for all those who hit garage/estate/thiftstore/swap meets regularly and have amazing come-up stories, i'm jealous...
but having a busy work schedule, family, life outside records, it can be just as fun to chop MP3's as rare 45's lp's.

i guess my point is if you buy for listening and not just sampling, you will never be let down.

when u get shit off the web u tend to be adventrous as u know u aint spending no money whereas i did not wanna waste cash when diggin so i played it safe alot.

but the wholde going thru records and finding unexpected things is fun but i aint prepared to spend the time and cahs on that any more.
