MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

i owned the MPC 1000 when it was brand spanking new.

...if you had come at me and asked me about a 3rd party m.o.s. ....or even asked me what the odds were that such a machine would even be capable of what JJ did with it, ....i would have thought you were absolutely crazy. ...and this was literally "YEARS" ago!!

....so now we have a brand new 5000, ....and you guys are seeing things like "right now" is the way it is. ...what i say is "who really knows anything at all anymore", ....maybe some teenage computer geek not related in any way to akai or jj is going to do something with it that blows both out of the water, .....maybe not? .....maybe akai 'is' planning on keep the updates *tight*, ...maybe not, ...but who really knows, ....the main thing is that the 1000/2500/5000/500 are not going to be upgraded for a *LONG* time, ...and you can write that down, .....so in the mean time, ...with such an incredible piece of hardware, as more and more people own it, ...they will only want to naturally push the crap out of its limites, ....attempting to make it a limitless classic, ....

just wait and see....

(just my opinion, ...but i believe i gotta point)

You Mad Son?

All I can say to the collectors in here is I told you so.

I got a 1k with JJOS2 and a 2500 with JJOS2, and I make 5 beats every 3 Days BUG FREE.

There are features that the MPC 5000 has that are not currently in a machine that costs 3/4 less. After 5 months of use, I can't recall a day where I was sad that I moved up from an MPC 2500 (JJ OS 2) to the MPC 5000. And just as the MPC 1000/2500 received numerous OS updates which included feature requests (from Akai and JJ), I anticipate the same with the MPC 5000. This forum has been a great resource for its members to express what they want in an MPC. Anyone wishing to research this topic will find that the feature sets of the MPC 1000/2500/5000 look nearly indentical to user requests here in the forums. I believe this will continue. Take a look at the MPC 5000 feature request thread. I will be here to tell say "I told you so" when some of those great suggestions find their way to a future OS update of the MPC 5000. Until then, visit this site frequently to read about our great experiences (or not so great) with the MPC 5000.

Askia Shaheed... i have to say that is one of the more postive post i've seen you put on here. I think that the 5000 is going to be a great machine. I've currently have the 1k w/o the jj os, but still want to move up to the 5k.

Damn it Askia, if you ever become famous for production and get endorsed by Akai, you are going to be one hell of an endorsee... You could sell the hell out of this machine  Did you ever sell cars?

Maybe you use to act or do those informercials where you were an "actual customer" with a testimony on TV late at night.

i think the biggest step for the 5000, the thing that would improve it the MOST (more so even than the badly needed keygroups!!!) is Global Program Edit.

GPE and the WHOLE button is in my opinion the single most fundamental improvement in the JJ os for the other models. making complicated programs is an incredible hassle otherwise, and that's REGARDLESS of what MPC we're talking about. it's different if you're just loading oneshots from folders and slappin em down as is...

i've said this before but this is far more observational/constructive than participatory/antagonistic for a change.

the 5000 needs, needs needs Global Parameter Edit.

I agree with you 100% and then some. Global Program Edit is the feature I want the most and can be implemented based upon how JJ did it with the MPC 1000/2500. Having a keygroup sampler is also at the top of my list...not because I will actually use it..but because this is probably the #1 complaint MPC 4000/MV users have about the 5000. Since Akai/Numark/Alesis fall under the same umbrella..it would be nice to have some of those Fusion features in the MPC 5000. The potential is there.....remember when no one believed the MPC 1000 would get the features that were added with Akai OS2...and then what JJ added with his OS2?

As far as being a used car salesman

I love MPCs. So I will always be around talking about the latest MPC released. I already have visions of an MPC 6000.

if you can find a sympathetic ear of a programmer, i bet you could suggest something even better than the "WHOLE" button in jjos:

for example, WHOLE is a lot like CTRL A or APPLEKEY A on PCs.
similarly, if you hold CTRL on a PC and then mouseclick a number of icons, you can select nonconsecutive multiple icons.

that'd be a handy selection key kind of thing to add to a WHOLE style GPE control so you could pick and choose OR do a whole-control.
