Duh, it was released in 1994. It still changed the game and is still very sought after. If it wasn't for what Linn did then these latest MPC's wouldn't even exists.

I was under the impression that the 5k was supposed to already do the keygroup thing...
Anyway, Askia Shaheed keep doing your best to promote your newest product line, I'm sure superiors over there Numark/Akai are happy with your work.

Askia Shaheed wrote:Linn/Smith can photoshop pictures and talk about features all the want. We do this everyday on the forum. I would love to see a $3000 work of art. However, I won't go overboard with excitement until they actually make this machine. Especially since Linn's last attempt at a workstation's OS was the MPC 3000 which is primitive when compared to the latest MPCs.

At the present moment, the 5K is a monster and future OS updates are obviously coming. For you guys that want a keygroup type of sampler like the 4K..simply buy a $400 Z4 and connect it to the 5K. Or keep emailing Akai and ask them to implement something like the Z4 or even the Fusion's keygroup sampler in the 5K.

Blablabla... same old bs from good old we all know who. Why buy a mpc3500 and a z4 when you got it all in a mpc4000 ;)

Maybe then you want to hike on over to the 5000 forum then... we're here on the 4000 forum, and what do you get .. a bunch of people who like the 4000.. imagine that....

I don't see why somebody with a 4000 can't comment on how they feel about the 5000.... he didn't tell you not to buy it for yourself. He's indicating that what he feels about it from himself.

I use the 4000 because their is NOTHING better for my particular needs and purposes. When a manufacturer steps up and
creates something that is better for my needs and purposes, It will be bought. Unfortunately, Akai indicated by their current
product sets that they didn't want any more of my money.. they're hoping it goes to somebody else ...

Funny how people complain about what us 4000 owner says when its the 5000 owners (and sellers hehe) that keeps coming into the 4k forum talking nonsense...

The 5000 is junk. People told me to read the manual when I said the 5000 couldn't read 2000XL, & 4000 programs and sequences. And now that people actual have them now, they are finding that you can't. The 4000 can read files from every MPC that came before it. Who cares about a 20 bit synth. It can't touch my Novation A-Station. I'd buy an MV-8800 over the 5000! Don't get mad cause you got suckered in.

LMAO at these guys dissing Dave Smith and Roger Linn.

Dave Smith INVENTED MIDI fer chrissakes!

What more do you want, him to have invented ELECTRICITY as well??

While Dave Smith can take credit for MIDI and Roger Linn for taking the lead for the MPC line...this was still long ago. Neither of them have tackled a project like the one they are currently working on. While I am skeptical....I wish them success in pulling it off. They can have my $3000. But their product is very much vapor-ware as it stands today.

As the MPC 4000...I don't believe the MPC 5000 was built to be a self-contained music production workstation..but rather as the heart of your MIDI production studio. Since the MPC 5K doesn't have keygroup sampling, you option is to get an external sampler (software or hardware) that does. With 4 MIDI outs, you have enough connections for your plenty of sound modules/samplers just like the MPCs of the past. Today, we have plenty of options for everyone. If you want an MPC which integrates a Z sampler with an MPC..go for an MPC 4000. If you want the numerous features that the MPC 5000 has that the 4000 doesn't, then join me as one of many happy users.

Personally, I use the 5000 because their is NOTHING better for my particular needs and purposes. When a manufacturer steps up and creates something that is better for my needs and purposes...it will be bought (which includes the Smith/Linn Boom Bap Drum 3500 or what ever name they decide on). Fortunately, Akai indicated by their current
product sets that they wanted more of my money...and didn't want it going to anyone else. Any company that wants to continue getting my money can simply visit the MPC 5000 Feature Request thread to see what I want in a product.

Yup..it samples in 16 bit like most other hardware samplers/sound modules. The 5000 can export its 8 hard disk tracks as 24 bit files to load into Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, etc...as well as import 24 bit files to it hard disk tracks. The MPC 4000 doesn't have this function.

So you can download free virtual analog synths for free? Yes, everybody can do the same but I prefer programming the VA synth onboard the MPC 5000. The MPC 4000 doesn't have this option. The MPC 5000s VA synth in the right hands is powerful. Any VA synth programmed by a novice can sound like crap.

But those features are not even my favorites. I choose the 5K for many other reasons.

There are other things the MPC 5000 does that the MPC 4000 doesn't. There are plenty of threads with this information. But I am not trying to sell you an MPC 5000 but rather clear up anything you wanted to know about it from an actual users perspective.

Ok nothing more to add

YOu bought the 4000 cause it fits YOUR particular needs

I bought the 5000 cause it fits MY personnal needs ( i really don t need keygroups, already have a keygroup sampler ....though i need some stuff not present on the 4000...)

We are both happy with our machine

That the important point !

Both are great imo !

Yes already one

Still some bugs but not really a big deal for me...

Not agree with you on that point askia ..

Dave smith released many great synths alone such as evolver & prophet & i m sure this machine will be a real beast !

Though my guess is it will take a long long time before we ll be able to play with it ....

I m on the pre order list for the linndrum2 but i recently receive a mail from roger indicating me it won t be released before middle 2009.
