MPC2000XL Help

I need help flashing my rom and attempting to restore the bootloader. any information regarding that would be very helpful.

you talking about the flash rom? there are 2 options , reformating the flash rom or defragging it. im guessing your having some kind of startup issue so would it be a 2000 that your using since the xl can retain the O.S and you bought the flash rom on a 2000 to store the O.S?

my advice would be reformat the flash rom and then reinstall your O.S onto it............?

Actually Im using a 2000xl but whats wrong is my memory got a surge or something and now even with out the memory in it - it reads as the memory is still installed. I need to flash the actual bios in this thing. Ive tried to reinstall the os but this doesnt help. MPC still comes on and boots up normally but as I said it has a glitch in the machine, reading that it has full memory whilst it has none installed. Ive tried different sets of memory, tried to wipeout the settings using hard reset. Nothing has worked. The OS is intact, just memory is screwed up showing memory is maxxed out even though it isnt even installed. Crazy thing is - even the 2mb onboard memory doesnt work - so I need to do something. My mpc has been sitting for almost a year now, and Im ready to just beat it to pieces.

Hell, I might as well seeing I cant get a Pro answer in 8 months of being a member here, with the same base question. That would be my answer for someone if I knew nothing about it or couldnt recommend a fix. Just go get a new one - in todays economy ?

and u think that its salvageable?

Actually I do. It functions fine except the memory not being read. Ive discussed this with technicians on other forums and they suggest having the bootloader flashed. 2 posts were by certified AKAi techs so yeah I think its salvageable after speaking to them.

Sounds like the rom is corrupted, so I would guess it is either a physical problem with the chip itself or a corrupt rom image, try downloading a new version of the rom and reflashing the mpc. If that don't work then try and get a new motherboard or rom chip, or get another mpc, maybe a busted one or scruffy one and transplant the parts you need.

Depends on how much you want a working mpc, the economy don't have much to do with it cos if you want a mpc enough you will find a way to get it, plus when the economy is flat prices drop. But as I said try downloading the rom image again and re-flash it, a corrupted image can cause all sorts of problems.

Actually theyre part of an IRC Channel and Co-owners of a business where they repair AKAI Pro machines of any sort. They want me to bring it in. Theyre not going to give away their ability to make money with their knowledge so NO I didnt get anything out of them but got alot more hope than recieved in the first few replies. This problem requires more than a manual and push button knowledge, which is beyond your scope obviously. Thanks anyhow, glad I didnt just get a new one when this one is fixable, with a removable eeprom. Thats the real knowledge I sought in the first place.

Do you have ANY memory sticks installed on the motherboard?

I had the same problem for a few times.

My MPC 2000 booted up properly, but when I wanted to load or sample sounds i couldnt do this because there was 0 megs of ram,
I took out the two 16mb sticks, wiped the connectors with some alcohol based liquid, mounted again and it worked properly, but first try booting it up without these ram sticks to make sure the mpc finds the onboard 2meg ram itself, if it does, mount the clean sticks again, should be fine
