Portable turntable?

I am pretty sure we used the Stanton needle that has Yellow on it.

The demos are more proof that it's possible, but not necessarily practical. There's a demo of Damu The Fudgemunk doing similar things with the PT-01.

Here's a more optimal solution. Get a cheap belt drive turntable that accepts standard mount cartridges (used); something like Stanton T50 would do just fine. Then, track down a PT-01 on eBay for $50. There's no reason you couldn't get both a decent belt drive and the PT-01 used for a total of $100; that way you could have a table for digging and sampling. Add in a decent cart (I like Ortofons) and you're good to go.

Nah, I probably wouldn't unless I absolutely had to.

Any type of cheap turntable with an integrated cartridge is going to be poor quality.

So I guess it comes down to are their any PT that you can replace the stylus or cartridge?

You can replace the stylus on the PT or the Handy Trax. The problem is you can only replace it with the one it shipped with. You will never be able to replace the cartridge because it's part of the tonearm. Might you be able to stick another needle on it from a different manufacture who used a similar mold? Maybe, but again -- you're back to the real problem: a crappy cartridge.

I just don't think you're going to be very successful in your quest for a good sounding portable turntable.

little tip... keep your handy trax on a flat surface.... if you dont you will find it goes off tune and out of pitch when you move or tilt it.

My boy has a completely different stylus on his from a Stanton set of needles it works fine there are a alot of people online who have done it.

I don't doubt it's possible, I just doubt there's a significant sound improvement since the so-called cartridges themselves are trash.

Playing the same record on both of ours with one stock & one Stanton all 6 of us said it sounded cleaner & crisp.
