i'm all about my 1/2k. and it's got nothing to do with comparisons to other machines. it's just a sick box unto itself.

i think it could be a classic. all that needs to be done is akai needs to stop production of the 500, and release a newer portable version which is crappier and has bad features, disfunctional pads and then ppl will be fiendin to get their hands on the 500, selling them on ebay for crazy prices. people are funny like that. the 500 gets hated on like a **** right now, but if production stopped, and akai were to release a newer portable model say the 750 or something, dudes would come out screamin 'oh the 500 was way better bring back the 500!!'

just a thought :)

Ive used many other samplers that didnt even have half of the features of a 500, Just the simple fact that you are getting a sequencer in a low cost MPC product should be enough to be happy about!
Hell your getting the bare basics for sampling, that a machine like the 2000xl which i own, didnt even come with..straight out the box. Im f*cking jealous LOL, i gotta pay an extra 200 for something that should of came with it in the first place. You got EQ, compression, and filters right their at your disposal, and you 500 users dont even have to f*ck with stone age floppys...what more do you want???
Also correct me if im wrong but 500 users also have like a minute and 50 seconds standard sample time with out the memory expansion, no!?!?
While im here still stuck with 21 seconds with my stock 2000xl LMAO

The build is good enough, cats wanna fly with it, kick it down a flight of stairs and eat off it, in other words do everything except for take care of it properly and plug it into a wall. Hell yeah its gonna break on you if you keep treating it that way.

One more thing to add......the 4th pad went dead on my 2K, and ive treated my gear with nothing but total care, so IMO most of the MPC materials used to make those machines are of an inferior quality, to begin with.

peace
