I know that the 2500 can do this and that the 5000 has an 8 track recording to harddrive but I use a mpc60 and a 2000XL and have heard bad thing about all these new Mpcs. I really would need this feature for my synths and guitar and bass.

So do any other models do this? 1000 with JJOS? Any others?

The MPC 2500 is pretty much on the same quality level like the 2000XL so I wouldn't be too much concerend about the build quality + the workflow is very similar to that on the 2000XL.
Input thru is only available on the 2500 as far as I know (and maybe on the 5000?)
Make a search on the forum, this will bring something up for sure.

Its much easier for me to go to the record screen, press play and rock out with it till I get it . Then hit record. I've tried recording into a seq, but it never works out the way I want.

Can the 4000 do this?

Here's a quote from the overview from Akai's website...http://www.akaipro.com/mpc4000

akaipro.com/mpc4000 wrote:Sample recording can be performed even while the sequencer is running, from digital or analog inputs, including a RIAA phono input for direct connection of a turntable, or from the internal CD drive, and the MPC4000 Plus can also resample its own stereo output.

The 4000 is amazing for this so that you can for instance play a sequence go to record and scratch over the top and take your best take and edit etc.. Very cool feature. Amongst many other cool features
