REALLY CONFUSED??

I already got the 2kxl... but i was wondering, if i just got a EXTERNAL CD ROM and a EXTERNAL FLASH DRIVE ... like the 2500 and 4000 have, will the 2kxl amount to the 4k and 2500 ?


ALSO ... if you just had 2 stick with 1 MP ... that was the most all around... which would it be?

when i wrote MP i meant to write MPC ... my bad.. i was basically asking.. if you jus hadda stick with 1 MPC.. all around... wha would it BE? i was thinkin the 4k because it has the cd rom an flash drive..

the cd drive and flash ram don't make ANY of the mpc's the greatest. what makes an mpc the greatest is it's features. look past the cd drive and flash rom.

Fully loaded 2K XL generally goes for around $700.

4000s still sell used for around $1600 and up

2500s used sell for around $1100 and up.

Keep in mind these are just ballpark generalizations.

Do the math.

If an external cd rom and external flash drive with the 2K XL amount to the 2500 or 4000. Then Akai must be installing very expensive peripherals in their MPCs!

but when i mention the DRIVES... im talking about saving your work.. the CD era is coming to a slow stop... and ZIP DISK for the 2kXL are hard 2 come by.. would you suggest the 2k 500 over the 4k ?

What features other than drives impress you the most? This is what you have to ask yourself.

It shouldn't phase you at this point in time about something becoming non supportive, because trust me, cd's ain't going no where no time soon.
I'd suggest checking out features/functions rather than saving mediums.

Just an idea for you (though I'm not trying to confuse you any more than you are)...you can install a card reader into the 4k if you decide to do so.

i mean.... you'd think that'd be the case but do you really think you'll have a problem with saving if you had to buy a brand new box of bulk zip drives for dirt cheap online, compared to a cd drive (which i haven't heard anyone actually say they get much use out of)


if saving is one of your passions then by all means, 200 gb external hard drives go for pretty cheap. you could have some fun with that i suppose. oh but if you're into making beats then saving, however you have to do it, is nothing but a task at the end of a session.

dude, just get the internal card reader and call it a wrap.
When it comes to the 2kXL, it shouldn't even be a discussion about what storage medium to get anymore. For less headaches, internal card reader.

Ive had the 4000 since day one and I NEVER use the CD feature at all. Its a dope machine because of the workflow smooth operation, and becuause of the keygrouping (Ability to play a sample up and down a keyboard scale in pitch) similar to 16 levels. The 4000 has abilities to assign filters and LFO to entire programs or individual samples as you choose. It does everything except make dinner for you. It is NOTHING compared to the 2000 / 1000 series people need to understand that its like comparing a sports car like a Corvette (which is dope) to a Lambourghini. The 4000 does things and behaves very differently then the other 2000 series MPCs (which are killers don't get me wrong)
