d-oh wrote:sorry for the stupid question, but i am not familiar with card readers and was not able to google the answer -is the ADIDECFB a reader ONLY or a reader/writer? in other words - can i export songs/files from the ADIDECFB to my computer? thx

Yes it can read/write to cards that are in the drive.

It's only draw back is that the Cards are not Hot-Swappable. You must power down the device to insert or remove a CF card.

If it weren't for that fact this would be the perfect solution, but even with that, get a nice 1GB card recommended here and it's 98% perfect solution :)

(Hell for the price, I'd say it were perfect, but that's my opinion)

Your question kind of makes it seem like you don't know how the MPC works. Read your manual and read up a bunch online. The MPC doesnt save a Playable song format at all, regardless of the drive that you install into the MPC. you have to record your jams as audio files on your computer. (Using an audio interface or your on-board soundcard)

UPDATE: This Memory Card is not working!

The user that said this card does work, is there any tips/special formatting procedure/FAT you used?

i was installing my card reader and was just about done till i hit a snag

the ribbon cable i have has the one pin blocked off i just barely noticed this mentioned in the first post that u need a 40 pin one

this one was posted before but will NOT work

i was hyped that i was almost done and ready to go but the ribbon cable i took out of my old pc is worthless. gotta wait till tomorrow now...it's late and all the computer spots are closed. that sucks.

Yo four eyes... that ribbon cable looks just like the one I am using and it works just fine! And I hope you installed the newer OS first or your card reader may not be recognized by your MPC and you won't be able to load the OS from a CF card.

YES! i'm done and it works!

ya that ribbon cable...the one i started out with connected to the drive just fine because it doesnt have all 40 pins.

but the mpc end needs all 40 holes and the one i had and the one in the pic above if you look closely its missing a hole where a pin would go in in the middle.

but alas i just picked the right one up at this vintage mac store and it detected the drive and everything.

i was looking for the CF cards that have been confirmed to work but they were out so i copped this brand called "ativa" i believe its like office depot's own generic brand or something. but it worked! and its 2GB. it was kinda pricey though. but that one works too if anybody comes across that brand.

here's a pic...its not as snug as i would've hope for and i put it a tad bit inside too much but it's legit. im satisfied with it!

update:

or more of a question actually. the reader works as you can see but on the save screen it says 1048.2M free on the CF card

if its a 2GB card shouldnt it be like 2000M

maybe the reader maxes out at 1GB?

or maybe im just retarded right now and dont know how many mb = 2GB.

oh ok...so i read your post and immediately went to return the card. they didnt have 1GB so i went else where. they didnt have 1GB either but they had the same 2GB card for half of what i bought it for in the first place. so i just copped it to avoid any further hassle.

i'll look online for some cheap 1GB'S.

i guess the 2GB ones work but you cant max em out. they just show 1048.2M available on the card.

It is odd that this is not working for you guys. You can see in my original post below, my kingston card, seen below, is still working great on my MPC. The image below has the exact model number on my Kingston 2 Gb card.

Did the CF card you got that looked the same have this same model no.??

Maybe the trick is that you need to do your first format on the MPC, do not put in your computer until after the MPC initializes and formats the disk. The MPC will not read the disk until you first format it.

I have a full 2040 MB, also shown below. I got the same addonics card reader listed in the original post.

koncepticon wrote:I threw my new 2 GB Kingston CF card in there, and IT WORKS too!

.. so when i first put the 2 GB card in there and booted it saw a disk, but it didn't read any files. .. so I formatted it by going to LOAD (shift+3) then F3 (format)

It read my 2040 MB card, did its format, then I threw it back into my vista* computer -- loaded samples, and now the files are visible and i'm set.

ya koncepticon...i get the same number on the format screen but on the save screen its not the same.

i think on the format screen it shows the mpc memory free or i might be mistaken.

but on the save screen it'll show like 1042.8M or something free on the card.

and i formated it in the mpc after i saw that it read the drive.

Just a quick update. I installed the drive recently. It works. Thanks Meishiko. The Microcenter 1GB CF cards DID NOT WORK. But the PNY 1GB CF card did.

if you can find 2 GB cards, if its cheaper than finding elsewhere, get it. newer, these are "going out of style" so if you can get 2 GB cards for $14 or less its better than $20 for a 1GB online.

my Roland Vs-880 automatically creates new partitions on disks over 1 GB so my 30 GB ibook HD is dope, even though its max partition is 1024MB like the MPC.
I haven't got a chance to see if I can make a second partition on the 2 GB with the mpc, but I still haven't needed to yet, (im doubtful) and might not, for quite a long while, with the 53 64-note progs I just built and threw on there, along with all my old shit.
Its pretty much stand-alone now.
I am loving this shyt.
