MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

I just wanted to know more about recording the analog outputs back in through the inputs. I want to put samples through analog hardware and then back into the 5000 for some character.

Can somebody please tell me:
In the sampling/recording screen, is it possible, to hit the pad/sound you want to trigger (live) and it will play back the sample, simultaneusly recording any signal it gets through the analog ins??

Or is the only way to do this by:
Creating a sequence with the pad/ sound you want, and then PLAYING back that sequence, going into the sampling/recording screen and make it record whilst its playing the sound back??

Do you know what i mean? I hope its as ez as the former description. It would speed things up abit.
Wanna get one, just need to get a few things straight first. :)

Thanks

Im not sure if im answering your question right but in the main screen your have something called loop.
You can also select how many bars you want it to loop. So example if u choose Loop ON and 8 bars and u record something, it will play the 8 bars and the loop back. and it will play over and over. If u keep the record on while u play u can add more and more samples.

Hope it answerd your question.

Hey Jaytim3, it wasnt the answer to my question, however it does sound like a good recording feature right there. So let me confirm this..
You can actually loop your sample recording so that when it reaches (eg) the end of the 8 bars, it will return to the start of the bar and you can just keep on "dubbing" your sample playing over the top of the recording (blending). In essence, adding more and more to the recording as it reaches the end of the loop and starts from the beginning again.. ?
If so, thats awesome.

8) 8) Thanks tomazzzi. Thats good to hear. Im liking the idea of this machine more and more each day.

Yes, thats right and BTW u can also ERASE the sample u have recorded while in record mode. F. Example if u played something with Pad1 u can Erase something u dont want by holding Erase and tapping the pad at the exact time u triggered it. Miht be good for your live playing;)

Select the Main Out as recording input?? You guys are talking about INTERNALLY re-sampling within the MPC correct?
Doing it like that internally is good too i guess, however, i wanted to PHYSICALLY send the main out signal through audio cables into some hardware boxes for some flavour (eq'z/filters/comp/etc) and then back into the MPC's record inputs.
I also wanted to be able to HIT a pad in the sample record screen and it will play the sound assigned to that pad (eg: a snare) out of the audio outputs whilst recording through the inputs at the same time. NOT by haveing to create a sequence first (with that one snare) and press the play button and then record. (too much trouble for 1 drum hit)
Does that make sense?
From Tomazzzi's reply, i gathered that this is possible?? It is, yeh :?:

Yes, you can do what you are trying to accomplish with the 5K. You will probably want to turn off monitor in the recording menu when you try this though.

Ah i see! Your talking about recording your pad playing whilst the sequencer is in record! (midi data) Yeh my 2kXL works the same way.
I thought you were talking about these features in the context of actually recording audio in the Sample Record screen via the analog inputs. :D that would b kool!

Thanks Askia for confirming that.
So the pads ARE active, and do trigger audio whilst recording in the Sample Record screen. Awesome! 8) Thats going to make re-sampling drums/etc out of the mpc muuch quicker! (As you can see, i like workflow)
Re: turning monitor off -> very good point. Will have to keep an eye on the mpcs meter to make sure it doesnt clip since you cant monitor it.
There is a meter in the 5000's sample record screen correct? ???

Gotta start saving for this machine now..

Yes, there is a meter in the 5000s same record menu. Turning Monitor Off prevents you from monitoring the MPCs output and input at the same time.
