Can sequences be changed with Midi program change messages ?

I was hoping to be able to use the MPC500 by changing sequences using program change messages from my behringer bcr2000 anyone know if this is possible ?

..or does this change the sample programs on the mpc, or does it even do that ?

so far, it would seem you can't use program changes to change sequences on the Akai, this sucks big time magoo..

..can you use the pads to change sequences, or am I hoping for too much ?

u can use the pads.. as for midi msg's, im not sure.. i havent tried.

for pads u have to hold the numeric button during playback (unfortunately)

Yes, just do it . You need to press the overdub to record, then press the playbutton to get out of overdub mode.

Strange, the sequences change ok when pressing numeric and hitting the pads in play mode, but when I go into overdub, it no longer changes sequences.

Being able to play back sequences this way is a good start, but being able to record them on the MPC sequencer would be great

Then you need to go into song mode. Take notes of how you change between the sequences and do the same in song mode.

I can't see how this works, In sequence mode I can change sequence by pressing 'Neumeric' and hitting a pad, but if I press 'overdub' and then try to do the same thing, it continues playing the same sequence and doesn't change.

& if I go into 'song mode' it doesn't work either, when I hit play, the curser won't even go to the field that allows me to change the sequence.

Have I missed something really obvious here, or does it not do this ?

Really, how bizarre! Do you remember the last OS this was possible on ? - seems a bit of a major one to overlook.

eimer, it's not clear what feature you're talking about that worked on the old OS. thus perhaps leading to confusion between you two?

seems like doperdeluxe is asking about two things. whether you can switch sequences while in overdub mode and have that change be recorded. and also whether that same thing is possible in song mode. as far as i know, real-time recording the switching of sequences is not possible on any MPCs.

also, maybe there's confusion about eimer mentioning song mode as a workaround. i thought he was just mentioning the use of song mode as you normally use it (non-realtime programming of sequences) and not realtime switching of sequences in song mode.

It is good you can change the sequences from the pads in play mode anyway.

there are still ways to achieve what you want with MPC500. The MPC sequencer is powerful and flexible enough that there are many ways to go about doing something with enough creativity. just look at the features and functionality of the MPC as how they were intended to be used and rethink them to adapt to whatever workflow you may envision. for example, the MPC is made up of samples per pads, tracks, sequences, and songs. that doesn't mean that a track has to be used like a track and a sequence has to be used like a sequence. MIDI data and audio could be used together in synergistic ways. There're useful features like resampling, mute groups, track mute/solo...etc. Lot's of possibilities.
