Well, from what I read, it's these Japanese cats that started writing new operation systems for the MPCs. They made it so you could do certain things that you could only do on the 2000 before. Now you can do it on the 1000, like multilayering stuff or stacking sounds. You couldn't do that with the original OS from Akai. Putting them snares together, so it just pops. That's a must-know trick. I don't even feel bad giving that out for free! I consider myself a drummer, if anything, out of all the instruments. Drums are the centerpiece of the whole song."

don't know what the heck he's talking about layers didn't exist on the akai os, or his "secret" drum layering trick lol
but just thought people here might be interested when it's talk about JJ on magazine. I didn't have time to write the whole interview thoug, just the parts about 1000 and jj.
31 is pretty good issue of waxpoetics, there's other interesting hiphop interviews too like count bass d and j.rocc etc..

ok, in this case i'm gonna give doom the benefit of a doubt and assume he's talking about linking pads (simult), the way you would on a 2000. the old akai os on the 1000 let you stack sounds on a single pad (with only a single filter for all stacked sounds) but you couldn't link pads simultaneously (which would give you filters for each linked pad).

i've seen doom say some stupid stuff before, but i think this one kinda makes sense...

he's most definitely talking about simult. layering per PAD is something i only like to do if they're going to be velocity switching, otherwise you kind of have to "take em as they are" as far as shaping goes.

Everyone has been talking trash about the metal-faced villain's live show shenanigans forever. His albums are dope. He's old. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Besides, I don't think I've ever been to a hip hop show that wasn't disappointing in my life. And I've seen some acts with some rad albums.

nah, terrible shows are one thing, but damn, don't send some random douche bag in a mask to lip synch to your songs for a twenty minute set. especially when people are paying $30 or more to see your lame ass show...

i will definitely always be a fan of his recorded work, but this live fckery is wack...

Then you need to see a KRS-1 show, a Busta Rhymes show, a Nice and Smooth show, (if you can find one.), a Edan show or a Doug E. Fresh show...
That's all I can think of for now.

I've seen Edan and it was un-live. Most of Wu and that was tedious. Ghostface with Cappadonna alone at another show was pretty rad though. I dunno. I love hip-hop but the live shit is usually pretty awful. Just an out of breath dude whose mic is way lower than his boys' rapping over a a piece of vinyl. You gotta admit that thats what you get 80% of the time. My point is that doom makes dope records that sound like nothing but his own, so why hate b/c his live show is lame... didn't stop me from listening to del.
