Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Akai FMC-2

Would Akai FMC-2 flash rom fit to my akai mpc 2000?
Please any advice, I can buy it for like 100 euro.

I can read, no problem with that,
the thing is that I found many different flash rom boards names from akai that is why I asked the question.I`m just not sure. My guess is that when akai made these option boards these were ment to fit to several number of samplers. Is it possible that akai made the same option board for different devices and have different part numbers for each device corresponding to the same option board?

Actually, the only one that can fit your 2000 classic is the FMC-01 board, which can also fit the S-series. The FMC-02 board was the 16 MB model which was available only for the S-series.

After the FMC-01 and 02, AKAI released also the FMC-08 board which was just the 01 with a different mounting plate in order to fit inside the 2kxl. So, your manual must be either for the 2kxl or it has a major typing error in it.

I have both manuals :

2kxl manual:
Locations of the MPC2000XL Option Boards
SMPTE IC chip (IC-M2TC), Effect Board (EB16), Flash ROM (FMX008M), 8 Individual Output with
digital I/O (IB-M208P), Simm Memory Board (S3SM16).


2k manual:
Location of MPC2000 Option Board
SMPTE Board (IB-M20T), Effect Board (EB16), Flash ROM
(FMX008M), 8 PARA out (IB-M208P)


Well I did not get the manual for the 2k from akai website as the manual from them is for 2000xl in both (2000/2000xl) manual/download sections.

The guy that sells the option board I mentioned claims that this board fits the mpc 2k, I asked because the mpc2k manual says different...

Yeah, the manuals say the same in both machines. I'll look around on the internet right now and search for that model number you posted up.

but wait.... the description is a bit strange. He said it was installed in his MPC2000 (althou the board was labeled for the XL) but if the buyer want to be sure he should look in the manual of the sample. ???? strange

So it may fit but maybe dont work. :?

As far as I searched, the FMC-02 won't fit in any MPC cause the OS won't be able to read 16 MB out of the big flash ROM.
