floppy vs. zip vs. CF...

Besides speed my Zip and floppy's are working fine *touch wood* But I'm attracted to the 2&4 gig storage. Mite have to treat myself for xmas.

Am I right in thinking the drive can slot into the 2kxl and replace the floppy drive??

What 2 and 4 GB storage are you talking about?

As far as Flash Card Reader Drives go, (as far as I understand, and in my experience) they specifically only Support Compact Flash cards up to 1GB.

I'm not saying you're confused, because honestly I pray you know what you are talking about

He may just be assuming that he'd be able to use CF cards that large because such cards exist. As a SCSI dealer, you'd be suprised how many folks think that because a 73GB SCSI drive exists, you'll be able to use 73GB with your sampler. I'm always sorry to have to break the news to them that the 73GB drive they just bought on fleaBay will only give you 1GB of useable space (on an MPC2000 for instance).

711 floppies!, 10 zips..................or 1 1 GB Compact flash card. (2 if you want to have a full backup of everything)
less or no need for swapping, no moving parts = less chance of failure or loss of important data.


now the only noi5e coming out the MPC is what you make of it.

ironic... dudes can save many more beats to the cf-card with the cardreader installed but it the card goes blank for some reason they loose all their beats, with the zip´s you only loose much less hahah

i heard a story that this one Belgian beatmaker lost all his beats because the cardreader broke down on him, i know i have lots of beat that i work with at the same time so i wont change my Atapi zip-drive to the cardreader cause with my bad luck all my beats would go down the drain...

Good logic there, DeeSprm! In fact, I'm going to keep driving my 1968 VW bug because if I buy a Porsche Boxster and have a wreck, I'll damage a much better car.

For the record, I've never heard of a CF card going bad and usually any data loss involves operator error.

Although I'm not "in that CF Card game" (Im not willing to pay so much atm. Sorry SCSI4Samplers) I must say: Iomega Zip SUCK!
At my first encounter with a Zip, the drive cut little pieces out of the disk and I thought WTF. Then I read so many storys about the click of death. And guess what happening the same day: Klick,Klick,Klack
The material of the Zips is like a floppy and so **** frail.
Back in the days I used Magneto Optical Disc and I never had problems with them so I decited to get one again.
There is a reason why MODs were used for backups in companies. They are just save.
I use a external MO-Drive with 230MB Discs. Works perfect for me. The drive is relative quiet too.

I've had the same 4 zip disks for well over 6 years now, and they've never given me any problems, as far as loss of sounds or corruption of data.
But I've heard that if you put them close to speakers or other devices, that they can be corrupted.
I've placed my zips damn near next to everything, and nothing has ever happened...knock on wood.

Maybe certain brands of zips are more reliable or less reliable than others?

That's common sense.

Thats why I use MODisc. They are 100 % save against magnetic fields, light and can handle temeraturs up to 100 degree celsius. There is just one way to get data chaos: Put it on a big speaker AND heat it up as hell
