I'm bummed about this chord thing. Seems like its taking up code for more useful stuff. Any synth or sequencer (ableton included) with a chord feature is essentially useless for me. Even implemented at its best all you can do is play a certain chord STRUCTURE across the keyboard (or pads). To play another structure you have to switch your "chord" which is far more tedious than just playing the damn things. Maybe I'll be surprised when I see the implementation though. I just don't see it being that relevant on the MPC especially with the strict code limitations.

I haven't even used my 1000 in months, but will be buying this anyways strictly on principle

With the slow activity lately, I was hoping JJ was up to something. I don't mind paying a few bucks for more features. It's like cheap new gear. You always have something new to learn how to use. I love the idea of the 1000xl also.

I'd be interested to know what file format is used.
The main reason I'm still on OS1 is that I would have to re-do a lot of my programs for OS2.
Ideally OS2xl should recognise both akai/OS1 and OS2 formats and work for both.
Another feature I really want is to have proper midi-thru. I don't mind if it means you can't play the mpc when in thru mode. If I want to use my evolver PC editor I have to mess around plugging and unplugging midi leads. The MPC filters out sysex messages. Why not make a special mode where all it does is read midi port and pipe all data to the midi out? (and not filter it)
There are numerous other great ideas, which can be found in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=102901
scroll down to Sooty_G's post about 12 posts down. Perhaps JJ could do some of these too??

are you sure? I thought it was possible to do sysex dumps to the MPC and actually lay them into the sequence?
maybe I'm wrong or maybe this is a feature independent of MIDI thru though...

looks very interesting!
really hoping that OS2xl reads OS2 files 100% correct.
also would be good to see them envelopes having lin/log/exp switch, shoudn't be too big deal to make?
cheers
ps. USE EVENTS: OFF by default in track mute for gods sake!

hummm it looks interesting..but the price ?
If someone buy this christmas AKAI 1000 and want to update OS to max must pay:
1-Os1=49 dolars
2-OS2=49 dolars
3-OS2Xl=15 dolars
113 dolars total
...i think that after alll JJ will be generous with his users..all people talk good about his work...and his soft hast been hacket...why he not do a gift to all with a free pack?

so i translated (using babelfish) this from the big globe page:
2. OS2XLはOS2と同じメモリー領域にインストールされるため、OS2とOS2XLを切り替えて使うことはできません。
尚、パスワードが入力されたOS2にOS2XLをインストールしてもOS2のパスワードが失われることはありません。
and it translates as this
As for OS2XL because it is installed to the same memory territory as OS2, changing OS2 and OS2XL, it cannot use. Furthermore, installing OS2XL to OS2 where the password is input, there are no times when the password of OS2 is lost.
which i think is saying that os2xl will overwrite os2 ... so you wont be able to choose to boot up os2 anymore.... it had better be the case that os2 files are read by os2xl, otherwise ill be proper miffed.

i translated this it of text
4. OS2XLのパスワード料金は6500円です。
但し、OS2のパスワードが入力されているMPCにOS2XLをインストールした場合は1000円です。
and it came out as:
4. The password fee of OS2XL is 6500 Yen. However, when OS2XL is installed to MPC where the password of OS2 is input, they are 1000 Yen.
which implied that if you have no previous jj - you can come staight in and buy for 6500 yen which is about £40 or $66

It looks to me like each pad can be assigned a unique chord pattern.
Like simult but with midi notes rather than pad numbers.

Guess I overlooked that screen shot. I said I might be surprised, and I sure am. That does look pretty innovative. I've never seen something that can be set like that before. (though i guess you can do it in drum racks with ableton with some thought) Looks cool....
