Just for conversation purposes....I am interested in knowing how many people in the forums own an MPC 5000 or intend to buy one in the future. If you own one, did you purchase the CDR/DVD drive and/or memory upgrade options?

For starts..I maxed out my 5K with the CDR/DVD drive and the 128 MB memory upgrade.

Your poll was good timing as I've just bought a brand new MPC5000.

i grabbed the MPC5K and also the Akai 128mb RAM expansion.

Quick question: Is the cd/dvd for the 5K, the same as the 2500 cd/dvd model? if it is then I've got that covered and my 5K's maxed out.

Peace - Elite

put mines on ebay. it sold.

NO need for memory upgrade or CD/dvd as I rarely sample and I use the computer for everything...

I just checked American Musical. The CD drive still costs $199 and the memory $149.95.

The MPC 5000 uses the same CDM-25 CD/DVD drive used by the MPC 2500. However, the memory expansion is different.

Thanks for the confirmation...

Then that makes me fully maxed out - stupendous!

I thought I was gonna need to lay down some more $ for a new 5K CD drive, but I already had an unused 2500 one

Unfortunately I haven't bought a memory for expansion yet. I'll try the Akai dealer in my country.
Is the expansion memory specific from Akai or I can get a similar one from another product line? Please help.

With regards the CDM-25 CD/DVD drive, I do not really need it now. Buying it now would be just mispending money.

After doing an internet search...It appears that the Akai MPC 5000 (Akai EXM-E3) and and Alesis Fusion (E3 memory expansion) use a very similar memory expansion board. But I am not sure if they are the same. www.sweetwater.com sells both memory modules. However, the indicate that the Alesis module is only 64 MB ($89.96) and the Akai module is 128 MB ($149.97). However, other internet sources indicate that the Alesis E3 expansion board is actually 128 MB.

So....you could but the Alesis module which is $60 cheaper and hope that it works...

right out the house

getting the miko....the neko is a bit too large, and since im not that great on the keys, no need for 61 of them.

my PC is actually maxed out, i just want to be able to use it strictly for the mixing (until i can get a c|24 )....and i like the idea of having all my vsts inside one keyboard separate from my main daw screen, and also being able to carry it to other studios would be a big plus.

I'm keeping my mpc, i've got infinite drums and perc sounds and im always gonna be a fan of pads over keys/mouse for drum programming.....plus it'll be my sequencer as well.
