backing up you files on a Mac using MPC 3K + Vallixi

Haven't started doing this yet, but I know some people on here do, could you explain the process?

If I remember right you format the card, take it out, pull it up on the comp and open the folder so the Mac can put it's info in it...then use it in the MPC, when it's full, pull it and bring it up on the comp...drap the files out to their own folders and just repeat as many times as needed?

If you do this, can you explain your personal process to backup using a CF card and a Mac?

this is my dumb question of the month, free pass, no ish talking please and thanks in advance

You've got the process regarding Turds

Regarding the backup process, I do one of two things:

1. Right-click on the drive itself and choose "Duplicate" so I have a new folder w/files

2. Command+A and then drag to destination.

8.3 file format only for reliable moving between MAC/PC/MPC.

Files in 8.3 format, example:

12345678.123
KICKLOUD.SND
DRUM5678.SND

Examples that will get scrambled:

KICKLOUD-WET.SND
KICKLOUD-DRY.SND
KICKLOUD-DST.SND

A backup with Vailixi may be better served by purchase of another FLASH card.

Then use the SCSI copier function to duplicate from FLASH to FLASH.

great 8.3 reminder Rohan, I would have def. messed that one up...

can you go into further detail regarding the "SCSI" copier function using two cards?

(two cards both partitioned the same amount
take one card out, put second in (transfer card w/ Mac info) copy info to that card
pull that card up on screen and drag files to their own folders)

so this just works on MAC?
i just got the 3000 with 3.50
and i dont have a MAC just a HP notebook

The format of your "backup" disk is irrelevant as the SCSI copier within Vailixi will duplicate the entire disk, sector by sector. Format, partitions and all.

The SCSI copier is quite simple to operate.

Within your MPC3000.

1: Make SCSI ACTIVE screen.

Make active the SCSI ID you wish to use as the SOURCE during copying.

2: In the SCSI copier screen.

If not set already...
...Set the SOURCE SCSI ID to be the same as your your ACTIVE SCSI device.

3: Set the TARGET SCSI ID to be the the other slot in your SCSI device.

4: Start the copier.

5: The copy process will take a while.

Copying from SOURCE to TARGET the data of each device.

Sector, by sector, by sector.

If you're using a PCD-25 in "Multi Sector Transfer Mode" then this will take up to a few hours depending on the card size.

If you're using a Spyrus in "Single Sector Transfer Mode", do it over night when you're not using your MPC3000 for beat making.

6: Revise these notes or you may end up copying a blank disk over you data if the incorrect source and target are selected,
