I am new to the forums and fairly new to the MPC. I purchased the MPC 1000 Tutorial and it is a great way to get accustomed to the machine. Anyhow, I have a question about connecting my keyboard to the 1000.

I have a entry level keyboard (Yamaha YPT-310) and I am able to connect it to my MPC via Midi. I can play sounds from my keyboard on my MPC or on the keyboard itself. I can also record the sounds I play but I have no idea where it is recording too, because is not on the MPC. I mean, if I lay down a melody and record it to a sequence and then hit play...of course it plays, but if I turn off my keyboard I noticed it does not play...I assume because it does not record directly to the MPC.

Is it possible to record the sounds I play directly into my MPC? I am making drum kits etc, etc...but now I need to create my melodies and record what I make over my drums. Do I need to upgrade my Keyboard in order to be able to record? Maybe it is a matter of the settings on the MPC?? Am I limited to just sampling to get my melodies?? I am not sure if this makes any sense...but any help from the Vets would be greatly appreciated.

Humbly...

Check/search the MPC 1000 section using my user name.. I have discussed this numerous times in that section... The answer is there and prob won't be too hard to find.

Searching your name pulls up waay too many topics and the several that I did read had no answer to my questions. I hate to sound like an ****, but if you know the answer why would you refer me to find a needle in a haystack instead of just posting what you know.

Anyway, Thank you for trying...

When you say "track 57" what do you mean? Are you saying for example:
Sequence 1
-Track 1:Kick
-Track 2:Snare
-Track 3:Hi Hat
-etc, etc,
-Track 57?????

I do appreciate the insight. I will give it a try tonight when I get off work. My MPC is running the newest version of Akai OS.

like yea in your mpc you have empty sequences and empty tracks..

if you roll up to track 57 you will notice that its not a drum track anymore.. tracks 57 and up are dedicated to record audio only..

im not next to my mpc so i cant give you the full detail.. you also want to go to mode , mixxer and then go to input through and make sure its turned on..

this will alow whatever signal going to the record in to start recording into track 57 ... so thats all it is enjoy

plug the audio outs into the MPC

record the keyboard as MIDI first

go to the Record screen, hit record, press play on the sequence, sample the keyboard as it plays

assign to a pad, sequence the pad into the song, mute the midi track

I had to reread your post..... I apologize, you had the setup correct and I thought that was your question.. But as the above reply states, that is the only way I can think of for you to get your sounds from the keyboard recorded into the MPC....

This is one of the post I was talking about with my setup....
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=99314&p=889375&hilit=keyboard+sounds+mixer#p889375

In order for me to record all of my sounds together, I have my mixer main out going into the line in on my cpu and I record it into Audacity as a complete song.... So I leave everything setup and hit play and just record it into Audacity. And you can also take that song you record into Audacity and convert to either wav or mp3 formats.... So you can create it in wave and then transfer it to your MPC for ez playback when needed, you just can't make changes to it in that form... I can also do this in Pro Tools since one of my other outs from the mixer goes into my MBOX 2....

I apologize for sending on a wild chase.... My inital reply was quiker than explaing it, but now I see that it would have given you info you already had. I hope we have provided some useful info, if not then PM me and I will try and figure out another way to do it... It is the least I can do to make up for my first reply....

what DVS01 said helped a lot, I was having the same problem as the original thread starter....

but I just don't understand how the guy in this video is doing it?

you can hear the 4-clicks ready to record on his MPC2500, and then he lays the MK snyth

and it plays it back... if everyone says it's impossible, how is he doing this?

it doesn't appear that he's hitting pads to record, he's doing it in real time
