Note repeat has a latch function. Shift + Note Repeat will turn this function On.

I have two MIDI Recording feature requests:

1. I request to bring back the MPC 2000XL's Multiple Track Recording function that lets you record up to 32 MIDI channels at one time.

In the multi-recording setup, it allows you to select the Midi Input and Output on each track you want to record to. If you assign two or more MIDI Inputs to the same track, it will merge MIDI data when recorded.

This function came out of a need to quickly record my sequences created using my Fantom G to the MPC. You may ask why I don't simply EXPORT my Fantom G songs as a Standard Midi File and load them into the 5k, right? Well, Roland forgot to implement this function in the Fantom G.

So if I had the 2000XLs Multi-track recording option, I could have recorded my Fantom G song in 4 minutes versus 40 minutes due to accomplishing 10 recording passes.


2. Seperate Track by MIDI Channel. This will allow you to record MIDI data/multiple MIDI channels on a single track using an external MIDI device. Then you can use the Seperate Track function to create seperate tracks by MIDI channel along with its MIDI data. The MPC 4000 and the MV-8800 has this function.

In the Step Edit Menu, a MIDI Channel Field would need to be added next to the current Now and View Fields.

Normally I use the "Snap 0" -action to avoid clicks and such. Any fading/shaping can be done later with ADSR.

Great feature but my hands don't span from side to side of the 5k - using noose to push pads? (For all who don't own a 5k: Shift is here [pointing with right hand to Num keys on a standard keyboard] and Note Repeat is here [pointing with left hand to leftmost CTRL key on standard keyboard] and pads are here [bouncing with «middle hand» on center of keyboard])

Do you own an MPC 5000? Pushing Note Repeat + Shift will latch the Note Repeat function. You don't need to hold these buttons down. Then hit one or more pads using one or both hands. They will all repeat based upon your note repeat settings.

New feature request. Simultaneous playing of Multiple MIDI Note
The current Simult function will let one pad trigger up to 4 additional pads. This works great with internal sample programs. However, it doesn't work for external sound modules. I would like to trigger a pad (assigned to a note number) and have it trigger other pads assigned to miltiple note numbers. This way, I can layer drum sounds from sound modules.

The latest edition of Sound on Sound provides a review of the MPC 5000. The reviewer noted many good things as well as some bad things. Among the bad things, the reviewer talked about additional features he would like to have seen. But in another paragraph, he stated that Akai is putting too many features that are stretching what the current design can handle.

Anyway..being the feature request kind of guy I am...I am sharing the Sound on Sound reviewer's MPC feature request list (in no particular order):

1. Rex File import
2. Improved Chop Shop functions using default settings
3. Internally bounce MIDI output of ARP for fine editing
4. Use of Shift-key combinations to improve work flow
5. Q-link control most paramaters in each mode
6. Better reverbs
7. Effect presets
8. Hard disk:
a. Auto location
b. Auto punch-in
c. Hard disk playing in other modes
d. Add to each mixer channel strip: EQ and 2 effect slots (Insert and Send)

firstly , hi to all on this forum..
When using the synthesizer it is annoying when parameters jump to the position of the encoders. It would be advantageous to the user if you held the 'shift' button down the encoders became inactive until the user matched the parameter to the correct position. I would certainly like this feature and think it would benefit all users. I think the the MPC5000 has excellent potential and if Alesis listen to their user base it could potentially become the 'daddy'. I don't think it helps to be negative about the mpc5000 - if i listened to all the criticism on this forum i wouldn't be having so much fun now Positive criticism is the way forward and i'm sure reasoned argument and creative thinking will be appreciated by the developers and will assist them in their target which is ultimately to sell more of their machines..

Definitly agree with ya psiagarik on this parameter jump thing.

Don t worry Alesis are carefully listenning to their customers & will bring us a rock solid machine with all our needed features in the next future ( much more sooner than everyone think )

Glad you didn t take for words everything you read here cause there s a lot of bullshits mostly from non owners or flamboys.

when your in program mode and your under the note tab, it shows you the pad bank to the left and the pads on the right.


It would be a cool if the pads were shaded/highlighted to show which pads have sounds on them and which doesn't.

It seems like you want something like this implemented:

Changing how the sliders and knobs operate
A wide variety of parameters can be assigned to the sliders and knobs. This means that when you switch screens, the parameter values displayed in the screen may not match the physical location of the sliders and knobs. You can specify how the parameter will change when you operate a slider or knob in such cases. Slider Mode specifies how the parameter will change when you operate a slider. Knob Mode specifies how the parameter will change when you operate a knob.

Value Explanation
1. Null:
The slider (knob) will not begin controlling the value until you move the slider (knob) to a position that
corresponds with the displayed value.
< Example: the slider controls a value in a range of 0 to 10 >
If the slider is positioned at 5 and the displayed value is 2, the displayed value will not change until you
move the slider to the 2 position.

2. Jump:
The instant you move the slider (knob), the displayed value will immediately change to the position of
the slider (knob).

3. Relative:
Moving the slider (knob) will produce a relative change in the displayed value.

succinctly put.yes this is exactly what i would like to see implimented. i am sorry i did not see this feature request in the forum.

btw : if they had used continuous rotaries as in the mpd32 then it would have been a much better solution .

1) independent track length (like in RS7000)
2) all synth + effect knobs should be able to be automated
3) in grid edit, I don't want to see the 'moving' cursor, but I want to be able to move it myself so I can edit while the sequence is running now I first have to stop to record a new note !? I feel I have to stop/start my MPC far too many times to edit something, in all my other gear (EMU XL7, Machinedrum, Monomachine, RS7000,...) I can edit notes without having to stop the machine/my workflow
4) in song mode you should be able to use the pads to mute tracks (I basically want to run a stereo track from the harddisk, and add/subtract some extra loops 'live' ) OR being able to use the harddisk tracks in pattern mode
5) Q-link independent from the selected track ! Or at least have the possibility to make one Q-link configuration where different buttons/sliders can control parameters from different tracks/programs and this can be used in song mode. At the moment is song mode the q-link are connected to the last selected track when you were in pattern mode.

1. In Chop Shop, once a sample is initially chopped, I want to be able to select each slice from the pads. This makes editing faster. Using the data wheel to scroll through different regions is a slower process.
