MCP1000 to Mac - Digital

Anyone hooking the 1000 via Spdif to the LineIn/DigitalIn on the MacBookPro
Was thinkin of gettin the CO2 to do the conversion
1. Spdif coaxial from MPC to CO2
2. Spdif TOSlink to mini optical cable from the CO2 to the Mac
and vice versa...would this work?????

it wold mean digital stereo from mpc to mac with only a small converter,
and 2 short (1xspdif coaxial and 1xtoslink - 20cm each) cables and a connector,
which would make me very happy! - for portability

BUT DOES IT WORK?

truly, has no-one done this or tried to do it?? they must have?
cos all the mac book and mac book pro i believe have this feature

In the Tech specs for the MacBook the information for the audio input/output are as follows
Combined optical digital audio input/audio line in (minijack)
Combined optical digital audio output/headphone out (minijack)

perfect for hooking digitally from the mpc - spdif to converter to toslink to optical minijack???
(with help of a small converter like this: it's so simple even m-audio can't f*** it up!! (hopefully)

This would make my whole thing more portable and neat if it worked nicely,
also, would i be able to only run the out of the mpc spdif, thus cutting down on wires???

o cool, this idea sounds crazy... although I don't know what it's about...I have a Macbook Pro though... hopefully it works out man, good luck.

to be honest joey, the spdif sounds shyte. imho the whole sound of the mpc series soundin punchy is tracking out from the analog outs. if you listen at the fact of how they sound compared to spdif, i'm sure you'll agree. i think its best to sample into the 1k thru spdif if you gotta digital source...but other than taht i am not alone in preferring the sound of the analog outputs. if you wanna get real deep look at roger linn's fixed hardware output envelope filters on the ole mpc60...even more obviously present on the linndrum and that old 9000....and thats the pedigee you hear from the analog outs...

yes man i guess it's subjective, after all everbody hears differently...

what i meant was that i personally think the sound of the analog outputs is far superior to the spdif output. i track everything into my apogee ensemble from the mpc's analog outputs, and the sound is noticeably punchier then when i track out using spdif...i think it has to do with the hardware used in the analog output w/it's associated envelope..dunno really just guessin'

this whole subject is really interesting imho.

i reckon that the a>d convertors in the mpc are great. but once you have converted into digital then why on earth would you want to convert back to analogue again? (ie go d>a)

sure if you play it out from the mpc then use the analogue playback but if it is ending up on a CD then stick with the digital pipeline. surely????? let your stereo's CD player or the mastering plant who is ripping the CD to wax (thats what everybody does right?) deal with the d>a.

i was passing an analogue signal out from my MPC and then onto a MOTU ultralite (nothing like as good as jackymurda's apogee ensemble) and that was digitising it again (not so well actually...) so i was going:

a>d THEN d>a THEN a>d (which is basically how jackymurda was doing it) - that's like chinese whispers with your sound quality

much better i reckon to clock the apogee/ultralite to the MPC and take it along the SPDIF. if you do this then what you have is a beautiful *exact* copy of what you have on your MPC. no?
