Synthesizer with MPC.

OK soon enough i would be buying the Access virus TI synthesizer.
So before i buy the synth i need ppl to confirm my questions:

To connect and get the Midi data in to the MPC i need MIDI cable from INN and OUT in the MPC to INN and OUT of the keyboard pluss to record sounds i need jack with XLR the stereo OUT of the keyboard to the Record IN of the MPC?

Also if i record something in the main screen will the MPC also play the sounds ? Or do i need to record in the REC SAMPLE mode and record my tracks as a sample?

If any synthesize users use their synth on their mpc i would gladly like to see how they do it:D

To get the Midi data into the MPC you'll need to connect a MIDI cable from MIDI IN on the MPC to MIDI OUT of the keyboard. You will also need to connect another midi cable from the MIDI OUT of the MPC to the MIDI IN of the Virus to playback the Virus sounds. This is known as a 'Midi Handshake'.

To sample Access Virus sounds you'll also need to connect a pair of OUTPUTS from the keyboard to the Record IN of the MPC.

If you record MIDI data on a track in the main screen, the MPC will play the data on the assigned MIDI channel (1-16) of your synthesiser, if setup correctly.

To say it even clearer, there is no need to sample your synth sounds into the MPC to play them. Control the synth from MPC through MIDI, and hear the sounds from the synths outputs. Both machines outputs to some mixer, and that's it.

OK so if i export the beats or whatever with the mpc will the sounds follow?

Stilo. if the synthesizer's output is connected to the mixer, then im only able to hear the sounds that i recorded and im not able to export the sounds from the mpc... or wut?

What i do now with my mpc and my midi keyboard is that im using reason as a soundmodule and i use my mpc as a sequencer. Since the MPC only records MIDI data, i record the whole beat in my DAW from my mixer when im finished with it. (Yes im doing it the hard way). So if i cant export the whole thing from my mpc i will still do the same routine as before.

You mix the sounds from your MPC and from your synth together through the mixer. That's what it is commonly used for. Then you can record that into your PC or whatever. Either in one mix or one instrument at a time to different tracks...

You only need to record the MIDI data that controls your synth into the MPC. It is a MIDI sequencer after all. If that's the "same routine" you talking about...I don't know...seems much more hassle to me bringing everything into the MPC first just to play it from there again.

Ok i just thought there was a simplier way to record the beat..

Well i think ill be off buying the synth soon.. i got the money but it really burns using 22 000 krones for it (2567 Euro)

I would seriously consider if you really need that synth before spending that much money...or if you wouldn't be better off with a simpler, cheaper 2nd hand one.

Do u have another cheaper synth with alot of sounds in mind?

what about 'midi handshake' with sound module, i got kinda confused from the tutorial i read about this. It said this:

Midi out of midi controller to the midi in of the mpc.

Midi out of MPC to the midi in of the sound module.

Is that correct?

also another thing that confuses me is where do i plug my monitors? into the sound module outs or the mpc?

The Alesis Micron Looks crappy..tbh pluss i want a synth with like 61 keys.

You can plugg your monitors to a Mixer and then from the mixer to the Stereo out.

ahh if i only have a dj mixer and soundcard? maybe put it in the soundcard?

Yo, it doesn't matter wat it looks like. Obviously for u is more about looks then quality, the micron is a 37 key synt that handles all the jobs plus more...I've had mine for a while now and no complaints.. Ur gonna go out and spend more money when u have all the qualitys u need in the micron...but hey dats on you!!

That is correct.

Ideally you'd have a mixer of some sort in your studio to connect the outputs of your MPC and other gear. A multi-channel USB/ Firewire audio interface could also do the job for you. Your studio monitors (active) or amplifier and passive monitors will connect to your mixer or audio interface allowing you to monitor all your gear simultaneously.

cool man. i wanna thank you for always helping me out its appreciated. yeah i have a motu 828 mk II so I will figure it out. I have nearly finished exams i finish on the 11th so the then i can finally fire up all my gear and connect it. sticking true to my word only loaded the mpc twice in 4 weeks so i can pass my studies. ps - my s950 just arrived, gotta start learning that beast now (that is a whole other thread in itself!)! seems like i never stop having to learn new things but enjoying it!
