ASR-10 for MPC60II

Is it worth selling an ASR-10 for an MPC60II? I am much better with an MPC than an ASR-10 I think (I have used the MPC2000XL a lot) but I am not sure whether to sell the ASR-10. Has anyone used both? What are your opinions. Remember I am only thinking about it, I might not do it.

I'll probably get the MPC60 first because I want that more than the ASR to be honest. Then when I get enough money I'll get an ASR again.

Yeah, I love their shit so **** much. I think he just used the 60 to sequence, but maybe for drums too. It makes little sense to not use the 60 for drums, but a lot of his stuff was loops.

A lot of people sleep on digable planets nowadays. Theyre too caught up in 50 Cent etc (not that they're bad).

Man, I remember the asr -10 was the sh*T in the mid 90's. If you can play the piano, get an asr-10, I guess. Id get the mpc 60mk2 , thats just me. Make sure you have the upgrade. I just got the upgrade. And it feels like a new machine with the mono, note cut off, decay fader!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love that thing.. Digable planets, yea, cool like that, nickle sack of funk right? Na 50 Cent ain't bad really. I like his music. But I listen to a lot of stuff that is underground so I am by no means a mainstream listener. Anyway, I will probably keep the ASR keyboard and save up for an MPC60. Damn that will be killer. But for now I will keep banging out tracks with the AAAASSSSSRRRR.

is the asr 10 as user friendly as the akai mpc's? The only keyboard I ever used was a roland w30, pure hell, the manual might as well had been in german.

Yeah man............Got the asr and 60 making love at the moment. Most times the 60 is riding on top, working hard, while the steady and consistent asr sits back and enjoys on the bottom. Shit is straight up porno. I'd most defintely keep the asr my man and save up for an mpc....you won't regret it.

As for the digables yeah they was dope. I'll never forget one of the best shows I've ever seen.....saw it twice once in Philly and once in New York................Digable planets opening while Sade took it home.......

Actually I have an article from Keyboard Magazine from back in the day which says they used Akai S1000's and Digital Performer. At points even recording the vocals straight into the Mac onboard input instead of to ADAT. Vocals were then sampled in to the S1000 and moved around as necessary via sequencing. Interesting technique for the time to say the least.

This was on the first album. It also said they had live musicians replay a lot of the seemingly sampled stuff. I forget the producer/engineer who they used but cat had a lot of vintage gear from the era in which they sampled and according to the article replayed a lot of that stuff. His forte' was being able to recreate a 70's jazz/funk sounding vibe. The album tracks were supposedly made like this in the studio according to the engineer on the project. They had a small blurb with King Britt too not much tho.

I have however heard/read a LOT of conflicting stuff about that album so who the hell knows..... No really I mean....who in the hell knows LOL

I got my info from a guy who worked and toured with them since before they blew up and after.

I would like to see that article anyhow, maybe the beats were done by the time they did the vocals in the studio?
