Although the MPC 4000 is no longer supported, it's user base here in the forum is pretty strong. The MPC 4K has numerous features that are currently unavailable in the current models. Based upon forum feedback, I compiled a list of MPC 4000 features that must be implemented in future highend MPCs in order to get current MPC 4000 users to upgrade:

1. Keygroup sampler
2. 24 bit sampling
3. Software support (Aksys, etc)
4. Two MIDI channels per track
5. Simul SEQ play
6. Program List View
7. Output destination for metronome
8. Separate a track with multi MIDI channels into multi-tracks
9. Name External devices connected to MIDI OUTs
10. Track List Block
11. Phrase Library
12. MIDI Input filter (grid)
13. File List View w/ TAG function
14. Multi-programs
15. Cross-fade looping
16. Re-sampler in sample editing
17. Normalize multiple samples
18. Modulation Matrix w/ Aux env
19. Two LFOs per program
20. Q-link sequence
21. Emu, Roland, Akai CD Sound Library Support

Please feel free to add any others.

How about a jog/data wheel that works! The build quality on the 5000 is very... very poor. IMHO.

4 hardware MIDI out ports,
each of which can be configured to transmit MIDI clock or time code.

SMPTE

The job wheel can be a pain sometimes, nothing major. And the build quality is excellent. IMHO.

Though I know that Akai doesn't really care and most likely won't integrate any of this, I'll add some items, as if Akai doesn't
perhaps a competitor will see the list.... :)

So I'll add more lately, but this is a NECESSITY:

1) SYSEX control - PLEASE allow remote control of ALL items the instrument can do (even the 4000 doesn't control ALL but should do this).

as well as:
2) Program Modulation Matrix and Multi Modulation Matrix would be welcomed. I saw you put Modulation Matrix, but it isn't just
Aux Envelopes that we need control with. At least what the 4000 controls, plus there's a whole lot that it missed...

3) Config option to make so Remote Program Changes of Sequences has "Immediate" option rather then waiting until the end of the
sequence to switch sequences. Without this option it is VERY difficult to use Multiple Hardware Sequencers, as when 1 one switches
the others sequence remotely, they are playing different sequences until the MPC that received the Remote Program Change of Sequence
finally switches it's sequence at the end of the sequence that it's playing. The MPC 4000 is the only MPC that has this, and in my opinion ALL MPC's should have this option.

if your talking about Hardware - 512M of RAM and Host USB not just SLAVE, so that USB Harddrives and FlashDrives can
be used. But they'll never implement that on the 5000, so if they make the 5100 or something...

Cheers,
Dave

Or if they have to include it, tell them to put a GOOD synth on the MPC....

Maybe OEM the Waldorf Blofeld, or like what CME controllers did, they licensed the MicroQ and included it as
an Add on Card to their Midi Controller line.

Waldorf does license :)

The MPC4000 is more of a synth than the mpc5000 ever will be

The data wheel on the MPC4000 is excellent compared to.. well compared to all the MPC models!

also,... BIG BRIGHT SCREEN

That is already possible with the 5K.

SMPTE

You can choose to send MTC out ALL 4 MIDI Outputs on current MPCs. You can also choose to send Midi Clock. Or are you talking about something different like sending MTC out Ports A and B, and Midi Clock out Ports C and D or various combinations of these functions?

this topic is not about the 5000
its about what a real upgrade for a 4000 at least needs

no I kind of think it's about what a real 5000 should have.

If Akai/Numark decides to..then perhaps.

Let's get back to the features.
