What exactly happens when I change the setting in the small square to the right of the large track number from midi to drum?

I notice the note number (and pad) will change in step edit if i change to "drum" on a sequence with import.

Does the "Mode>Midi/Sync>Note" have any relation to this?

Read the manual man. We not here to pick off every question you have thats in the manual. C'mon duke... even your wisest adviser would tell you the same thing. Stop being so lazy and read the book. As far as your PAD187, I have never had an issue with creating kits with or without midi notes.

The thing I tried to describe here (and now have investigated further) happens only when using a program with edited pad-note assignments and (I believe) midi files as sequences:

Compare how JJ OS1 and OS2 behaves when changing between Drum and midi in the square to the left in the main screen. They behave different from each other! I find the JJ OS2 behavior a bit hard to understand. Midi notes will change in seq-edit.

Akai OS and JJ OS1 have the same behavior in this aspect. It's JJ OS2 that's different.
(It's like the Note Default Assign affects what's happening when switching between midi and drum but I can't figure out exactly how this works.)

I guess "hiphoppa" shouldn't read this, it will make him angry because he calls himself expert but doesn't have a clue. And by the way, it's not "in the book" (pdf?).
