Is this a sign?

After powering on my much loved for close to 3 year, without a glitch 2000 tonight, i get a shock to see my box frozen on Version 1.72 boot up scrren with all lights illuminated.

"No worries" i say and take my floppy out, format and create a brand spanked 1.72 os disk. To my suprise on a second attempt it gets past that sceen and loads into a window of black pixils with a posessed metronome click coming from the speakers. Stuff it, 3rd time lucky and i get what almost looks like an error screen?

Im rather cunted off by all of this an i ponder the question, is it worth me looking into fixing this? seeing i live in Brisbane, Australia and its rather difficult seeking technical support. or should i move on and get myself a new toy...

I would find it very hard to move on from the 2k... so if any members have encountered a similar problem/s or are from Australia and know of a Tec akai expert they can advise, assistance would be greatly appreciated.

One last Question, will a 1000 or 2500 load 2000 .SND and .PGM files?

I dont know what happened to your MPC but I would open it up, looking for dust, clean it, take out the memory and unpplug all the plugs inside and clean the contacts of the slots with a qtip and cleaning alcohol. Put it together, wait half an hour and turn it on.
But thats just me. If you never open up such a machine ask someone who did and let him do the job.

for me, when I really like a particular piece of hardware, I go buy another one if the first one breaks down. Then I can keep my original for sentiment, and for parts if I ever need it.


If you have a 2000, you might want to think about considering an upgrade to the 2000xl, which can be found on ebay under $400 at times, about the same as a 2000, but its a bit easier to upgrade things liek the CF reader and whatnot.


Do what the piper said, too. If its just dust or a bad ground somewhere, you can clean that s**t up and be good to go without any spending

cheers for the response guys, Good points although blowing for me is as extensive as blowing the the floppy drive and on my girls pussy before it gets a beat up . I figure a general electrical matienance tec could do all of this for a small price.
Ive used a xl a few time and couldnt really get with the wheel on it but i guess there is a nack to it.
So i think i may go on the hunt for another 2000 and as said, keep my fingered box for parts..screens near new, pads are tough etc..

Yes Im using a 2k classic, as i stated in my inital post I formatted a fresh disc and loaded on the 1.72 OS with no change in results.
Im Southside Eight mile plains / Runcorn to be exact.

Music lab from west end have reffered me to the supplier they use for Akai, ive shot them along with the Tec support on the Akai Pro page, Not sure if either will be able to help further but eh...worth a shot.

Yes, but not without problems. Make sure all your names (snd as pgm files) have less than 8 characters and you are a long way to getting there. Anything that has names with more than 8 char will have to be reassigned in the new mpc's.

cool sorry man yeah i didnt read u did a fresh install, its all good tho u should just cop another 2000 i mean you can get em kinda cheap from the bay in the US although the exchange rate is kinda shit at the moment,
