MPC 1000 MIDI w/ Samples

I'm trying to get my MPC 1000 to BOTH run some midi and trigger some samples on the same sequence. I cant get the midi sounds to go away, and we cant make the sample stop triggering at random places within the midi program since they have to be assigned to a note. I tried assigning the midi note to a note that's not used in the sequence, but then I can't hear the sample.

Any idea? I remember on the old MPC (2000XL), you could tell it that you wanted a particular track to be midi only or "drum/sample" only.

for the midi tracks turn the drum pgm off. and for the drum\sample tracks make sure there is no midi channel on.

That's my problem. The MPC 2KXL had this function, but I can't find it on the 1K. Any idea where/how you do it? I looked in the manual, but didn't see anything.

highlight the program in the main screen and scroll left with the scroll dial until it says off

or create a sequence for each, and run simult sequence? would that work?
