saving your projects

okay so im partially familar on how to save sequences and projects etc...but my question is why is it that everytime i go back to my beat..the track that i recorded my patterns with the samples is always missing..i have to manually record my patterns everytime..? why is that?

Do you know how to save songs? Plus, did you save your sample as well?

yea when i normally save it..i save the program as well as the samples with it...when i go back to the beat..the samples r there..its just the track that i recorded with the patterns of with the samples r always missing i would always have to manually go back and rerecord the track...usually i would just save the seqeunces, samples, programs, and all song and sequences...what am i doing wrong?

yea i did..

The easiest way for me to save is to create a new folder for each song or project that I'm working with. Then I save the program and samples into the folder. That way when you load directly on the folder, everything should load at the same time.

Are you sure the correct "Multi" is highlighted?


Also in your statement, it is not clear if the "samples" are missing or if the "sequences" are missing?

Are you saying that when you load thing up, that "Track 1" now says "Untitled" and there is nothing there?

What EXACTLY do you do to resolve this?

Re-Record the padhits/sequence? Or Select the correct Program int he Track Window.

If you tell us the exact steps, 1 by 1 that you use to resolve this, it will tell us what you are doing wrong.

hey guys i really appreciate your help..it means alot..

so first off when i save my project i usually create a new folder, then save all the sequences, the programs with samples, and then all songs and sequences. so when i go back to the beat, all the drums and percusssions would be there just as i recorded them, but the track where i recorded the samples like say track 6..would be empty, but it doesnt say untitled.even when i try to play track 6, no notes r there. The program slot would be blank. i would always have to input my program back into the program slot and try to rerecord and remeber how everything went. the samples r all there..all the settings r correct within pitch and zones..its just that what ever i recorded on track 6 using the samples..it wouldnt be there the next day i open the folder. do you think im missing a step when saving...

If you have a computer save the memory to a folder on your hard drive using akysys.

Just a hypothetical question, but you do have the latest OS of 1.71 on your 4k right? Actually, if you have another program already setup, why not just add the sample to it and resave everything.

You do know you can save the entire memory in one go, right? Save it all into one new folder and the next time you wanna load it, just load up that 1 folder and everything will be cool

First off, when you say there are no notes there, if you go to "Step Edit" there is nothing there? The notes are all gone? There
is a difference between the notes being gone and the notes not playing. If you have a blank program selected, on a track
that has notes, you won't hear anything. So make sure that the notes are actually there first. Step Edit, should do this for you.

But it sounds to me like you are not either saving your Multi or not selecting it when you load it up.

The 4000 has an option, that it will create a default Multi and Default Program... at startup, it defaults to these.
So if you load up your folder, you have to go to the "Multi" page and make sure you have the correct Multi highlighted. So that
all the right programs are selected and set to parts. Very important step, that many MPC users miss on the 4000.

If not the sequences will play, but you won't hear any sounds, becuase you haven't the correct Multi/Program selected.


So here's what I would do to troubleshoot.

1. Load up Folder.
2. Go to Multi Page on 4000. How many Multi's are listed? Is the correct one highlighted? Naming the Multi before you
save, might be helpful in the the troubleshooting. If you are not sure if it's the right Multi, go the Part List view and verify it has
the correct programs.
3. If Multi is correct, Hit "Main" and make sure the correct track is listed. IF you have the correct Multi, then you should see
the correct program listed in the part section.
4. If correct Part/program is selected, hit Step Edit, and see if midi data is listed there.


Depending on which one of these 4 points fail will tell me where to go next.

you also need to save the multi as wel as the program (and then load that one also)

I usually just save the ALL file and the MULTI. That should cover all your bases... if not somebody let me know otherwise

This is the way to go. Save the Multi!!!!!! Programs, samples and files means nothing with the Multis. Multis rules all else.
