What does a stuck button look like?

Some people have posted about stuck buttons and how a mysterious, stuck button can ghost commands and subsequently screw up (in my case) the entire interface. I am wondering how one determines which button is stuck. i've removed everything, just need to determine which one is the perp.

Here's a video of the problem. I hope I just need to replace a button or two. I fear that the board could be bad. I bought used.. Any/all help appreciated. I really need to get this guy up and running again.

Yo, it's great that you added the video. You get props for that. Gotta ask, where did you get the machine? Has it been yours or purchased from ebay or music store and when?? It looks like faulty wiring. Had someone done any work on it for you?? Did you try to replace LEDs and do any soldering??

i got the unit on ebay, about 2yrs ago used in excellent condition. pads are all still in good shape, etc etc. i haven't done any modifications at all, up until this point. and the only reason i am doing mods now, is because i had to take it apart to trouble shoot and figured now was the time if i wanted to change things up.


earlier this morning i loosened one or two of the boards screws, that lock it down/in place. then i gently picked the board up a millimeter or two, (while unit was on) and it switched from bank c to bank a. i tested one or two other functions/commands and they appeared to work normally, so i may have figured out the problem.

unfortunately i dont know what goes on underneath the board and whether or not i can simply add some sort of makeshift stilt or if i have to do something more intense/difficult.

ill try to post a video of the potential perpetrator later today.

...you had the issue and then took it apart? What did you do to "mod" your machine?

Because you had that little "spark of happiness" that you system started to act right, when you got it back together, what happened?

similar thing happened to me a couple years ago.

basically my 1000 was bugging out because i had tightened the pad assembly down too tight. overtightening the screws for the pad bank caused the issue because if tightened too much it makes pad 10's white connector (this is with the old style pads) contact a mounting screw inside the 1000 and shorts out the mpc. by the time i realized this my 1000 had been fried too many times and the problem became permanent.

the fact that your lifting the pad bank a little fixed the problem for you is a good sign.
means your mpc isn't permanently fried (yet). try loosening the upper pad bank screws and you should hopefully be good.


ohh, and if you have the newer pad assembly its probalbly a similar issue of something making contact that shouldn't. check around and dont power up your 1000 too many times when its like this....eventually it'll get fried...!!!

also, here is the "mod". i stripped the paint and took mechanized rotary steel brush to the panel. not having any labels will help me commit the device to memory. har har.
not really done, but done for now. my drafting tape skills really accentuate the timeless design of this beat making staple.

yes, it almost looks as bas as it did originally. but maybe i've depreciated it (aesthetically) thoroughly enough to keep away the thieves, yah?
