Can i sample using the ADAT input????

I just installed the ADAT card I got off ebay and I am trying to sample through it to my MPC 4000 from my laptop's S/PDIF optical output. Can you sample S/PDIF thru the adat card?

Yes you can.

ok, I think I know whats wrong, I didnt install everything correctly. I never installed the little thin audio cable that connects to the "digital in" of the CD R/W drive. I dont have a digital CD Rom audio cable only an analog one. I may still work with the 3 holed analog one anyway.

Youll need the spdif card in order to get that working

Yeah also just got and installed the coaxial s/pdif card also. but I didnt have a digital CD Rom cable laying around. I went to Radio shack and of course they didnt have any (Radio Shack is worthless), there are no more Comp USA's around and I dont really feel like driving 10 miles to the local Micro Center tonight, So i'll have to wait untill saturday to go out there and buy one.

Some misinformation here. The ADAT in will not read a SPDIF signal, it is for ADAT only. Some may expect it to since many audio interfaces can do both. Only the coaxial port on the SPDIF board will read/output SPDIF. You would need a toslink to coax converter to work with an optical output.

I didn't have a digital cd-rom cable either, ordered one online and it didn't fit. Oh well, maybe there isn't a single standard? I do most of my sample organizing on the computer so haven't bothered since. BTW, the only purpose for that cable is to digitally sample from audio CDs (which is better than relying on the CD-ROMs DA conversion).
