As I said before....they can't put out an extensive product such as this only after 1-2 years of preparation...not something that will compete with an MP or MV. Come next year..this same time, they will be talking Fall 2010.

The Linn II is concept that if it does see the light of day it will astronomical in price. Smith/Linn do small runs and with just the features in the last cg mock up it will be boutique unit unless they hook up with a major manufacturer. Smith analog circuitry doesn't come cheap and Linn's innovation is just as pricey. There is no way the the unit pictured can hit the market for less than $3K.

These guys can't go forever hyping cg mock ups of discarded designs.
My prediction is that if they show up with anything other than a working prototype folks will get over the hype on finally move on with their lives.

Smith's higher end synths are expensive, but Mopho is very cheap and capable. Anyone expecting the features of a Prophet 08 tagged onto a MPC 4K type sampler will be sorely disappointed... if it sees the light of day.

For those of you that know your Drum Machine history, know that the Linn Drum was one of the classics! Designed by Roger Linn in the early 80's, the same guy that helped design the 1st series of MPC's for Akai! Here's the drum sounds of the vintage Linn Drum! You'll have to un-zip these files!!

Speaking of strictly drum machines...has anybody tried out the Akai XR-20? I might get my son one for Christmas to start him out!

got my lil boy an xr20 earlier this year to keep him off of my mpc5k...
actually, it has a lot of useable sounds in it.... ESPECIALLY for resampling.

how old are your kids?

The son that I'm considering getting the drum machine for is 16 years old. I also have a set of twins that's 13 years old! The twins want to do something musically too, but haven't decided for sure what they like yet! One is leaning toward bass guitar, the other likes piano...or keys period! I'll pay for lessons if they are serious, but you don't really see drum machine classes being offered!

If my 16 year old can customize all his Playstation & Xbox stuff, he should be able to program & sequence on the XR-20 drum machine!!! I assume??

my son is 6. he started playing piano at age 4 by ear (real chords)
started formal training at age 5... he got excepted in a school of fine and performing
arts at age 6..... i'm sorry to sound so proud

big ups to the both of you. I wish I had gotten more into music at an early age other than just listening to it
