lol didnt they already say you can only use the CF card and not an sd card?

and i dont know why it would say floppy. it should say atapi. maybe if you highlight where it say floppy and turn the knob to switch the save option. thats the only thing i can think of, but i dont know if it would even say floppy if there's no floppy drive where it would normally be.

The message is "no floppy" which I also have if no card is inserted into the drive. It works fine with a card in the drive before switching on the MP so it's cool.

and that is how it is supposed to work. As stated before, the CF card needs to be in the drive when you power it up. and it won't work at all (or reliably) with any other flash media form factor.

if it does not detect the HDD then it will say NO FLOPPY even if there is no floppy drive in the MPC

also, for the IDE Card reader to be recognized you'll need os 1.20, for that reason, if you were to downgrade via CF Card back to 1.4, you would be unable to flash back to 1.20 without installing a floppy drive.

(A weird note on the floppy drive, it is set to FLOPPY B via the position on the ribbon cable: It has to be on the plug before the twist, [drive B] instead of the plug after the twist [drive A])

Not true. I installed my CF reader without OS 1.20 and it just works fine. I actually like 1.14 better than os1.20 'cause os 1.20 does not allow me to format a disk with multiple partitions.

I have an MPC 2000XL MCD and my SD has worked for me before in an emergency when my Compactflash cards were full, but I only used 256MB and 512MB cards, I can't vouch for anything bigger. As far as using CompactFlash Cards, I remember there being a thread around here where someone has been able to use a 4 Gig DaneElec card but can't remember if it was Partitioned or not. I also read that some people could get a 2 GIG card working without partitioning.

My 2gig card works ok, although I think you're better off sticking with 1gig if you can. Unfortunately I was sent a 2 gig one by mistake but after a bit of tinkering I got it to work.

I concur, SD cards work absolutely fine I did the test with a 2gig card and I can use it completely without any problem.
I must say that I use OS 1.14 so on format I specified multiple patitions. The MPC can only read disk siwes up to 1 Gig so you will need to partition your card if it is bigger than 1 Gig. Unfortunately os 1.20 (the standard MCD os) does not have this possibility anymore.

Yes but those cards need to get formatted on the MPC and will therefore not be readable on a computer.

Quick, anyone know if this brand (not necessairily the size but if you can get the 2 gig working, please tell me also) works well with the MPC 2000XL MCD? Also, what brand is it? I know some generic labels use certain brand memory.

Can you specify me the step to follow to format my sd card at 2GB on a PC (vista) and to make it works on my MPC.

2gb is not for mpc 2kxl.

1gb cards on 2kxl os 120 is the maximum.

Fat/fat16 ONLY.

sd cards work and so do cf cards. put it in the mpc and format it there. do it to both and you will have 2 cards.
