I felt the same way about this overrated machine a couple of months ago but to be totally honest,,
THIS THING IS A MONSTER!!!
The local guitar center finally put it on display this week, and i got to say that after messing around with it for 30 min...
it felt and sounded better than any other MPC i have ever used,,,
That Includes the 4000, and 3000, and i also own the 2500...
Im not sure why i never liked the 5000 to begin with since i hadnt even seen one before ..
I think i fell into this whole notion of talk in these forums on how bad it was and how disappointed people where when it came out.
I think we feel like that because the price is just way to high and you could probably do alot of the same production with a 500 that you could with a 5000.
But dont be fooled,, until you actually test one out.
This machine kinda reminds me of how PC owners feel about macbooks....
When we all know the answer to that is??
All i know is, if we can all afford one.
We wouldnt hesitate to replace .
I hope santa clause brings me one this year.. :D

That s the main pb with the 5000 :RUMORS

A lot of bad things are told on the 5000 mostly from people who never tried it.

Once you try it you, most of the time, cannot understand why people talk so bad about it ...

And I can only see it getting better. One thing to note if you are checking these out at GC is that they have the latest OS 1.02. I popped into my local "WalMart of music stores" and they had a 5000 with nothing loaded in it and 1.01 as the OS. GC if you're out there, you are doing a GREAT diservice to Akai by not presenting this thing with the latest OS. The saddest thing I told one of the, uhm, sales dudes about it, went back a week later and it still had 1.01 in it.

Of course the regular ole sales dude ain't gonna do diddly. The only way he can upload anything, is if he gets approval from his sales mgr or the store mgr.

So, if neither of the mgrs knew or don't know that this is what's happening, then you might as well forget it.

Just have a look at the bug parade thread (OS 1.02) and try to figure out, if you intend to use any of the features mentioned broken there. If you don't you'll be fine but maybe a «Music Production Center Fivethousand» is not the right device for you. Maybe you should downgrade to a 2500 or 1000. I own one and I use it quite often and quite often I stop playing with it because it's either frozen and needs a reboot (all my changes lost) or I'm frustrated 'bout the errors it has.
The only reason I keep it is that I'm really looking forward to OS 1.03 or something more useful. If you call it "a Monster" it's like Herman Munster (a bit off the rails) or the Loch Ness Monster (and I didn't see it yet). If you want to spend a pile of coins for a box with pads, sliders and knobs I'd recommend buying sliders, sponge rubber and knobs and glue them to a fancy box of your choice - makes no sound either but looks as "monster" as you can take.

its beautiful!

When you think about it, we can argue that the 4k has more features, but this baby is more reliable! Its the new generation. Much easier to use, easy on the eyes. I love it!

Don't sell yourself short. Your music can't be all that bad.

Buying an MPC 5000 changed my life. It took my production to another level. I will be selling $100K tracks in no time. Get one now and you may experience the same.
